M3 Stuart critical hits

Hi

Why do I have so many critical hits with this tank? My crew is just starting out in training.
Could that be it?

I usually like to shoot from a distance, 400m onwards, but it always gets critical.

Thanks

I would attribute it to you only facing relatively small tanks at the tier, and only having solid shot available. Without ammo that can do much post pen damage, you’ll be stuck with a bunch of criticals. try and aim for the ammo/gunner if you can, though

Would you think ping could contribute to this?
My ping is 140ms

No, it’s just your aiming. 140ms ping is low, the Stuart has 37mm solid shot it has little spall (Though I feel like M51 shot has a lot of spall, significantly more than the default shell). This isn’t like WOT where damage is random and attributed to crew skill and such, it’s around exactly where you aim.

Okay, but how do you hit an exact target from 300 meters or more?

In my opinion, this tank is for close-range shooting. 300 meters or less… Is that it?

I’m asking you because you’re more experienced.

Uhhh it’s difficult to give you an exact answer, I’m sure you’ve figured out how to use the gunner’s sight, and the little wee notches that give you ranges with the shell you’re using, so I’ll assume you’re talking about how to calculate range. The short answer is just eyeball it, the long answer would be that experience is all that’s needed, I myself eyeball it now, I can get it bang on pretty much every time, there is also a rangefinder feature (I don’t remember if there’s a default key for it, but I use right click), I don’t use it personally because at low tiers your crew manually calculates the range which takes a while, but if you’re sniping that’s not that bad. Can be beneficial too, that said with a low level crew they can only calculate up to about 800 metres.

If you’re talking about how to kill a target from 300m or more, aim centre mass when you’re new, just hitting the target is good enough. If you’re fighting tougher targets you can’t penetrate flank around the outside and round to their side. The more you play the more you get a “feel” for whether or not your shell will go through and weakspots.

The sad thing is that everyone has difficulties when starting off, this game has so many intricacies that even I don’t know about, and I’ve been playing for over 7 years haha

Sorry if I couldn’t explain it to me, but it’s not quite like that. Aim, look through the rangefinder, I know. What I mean is that all tanks have a vulnerable spot, but hitting that vulnerable spot from more than 400 meters away is difficult; you have to have very good aim.

Thinking about it, I think the problem is that when I play, there are few people playing Tier 1, so I’m almost always playing uptier, where I find tanks with tougher shells.

many thanks

Yes the issue is that. Assuming you’re playing the M3 and not the M3A1, (and in realistic) the highest you can see is 3.0, which is things like M4A3 (105) that you won’t be able to penetrate from the front at all, you NEED to flank in that case, try and play slower, and get around to their sides :)
