I would like to suggest the M.K.A, which was a medium tank armed with a 45mm gun (slightly weaker than the russian 45mm) designt for export, in which it would have been among the best, however after the start of the war the project was shelved.
M.K.A stands for Mittlerer Kampfwagen für Ausland which means Medium Tank for Export. It was armed with the 4,5 cm KwK L/50, which also existed as a Pak also for export, more info on it below.
In game it would be slightly weaker than the Pz III Ausf.F with its 5 cm KwK 38 L/42, with weaker penetration, but higher velocity. Overall it would also be slower and lighter armored. While it is a medium tank, with the full 250 PS at 3000 RPM and the full top speed of 45 km/h it could also go through as a rank II scout tank.
Krupp made in general relatively great efforts in 1936/1937-1940 to have a full series of export tanks, which partly were even better than the Wehrmachts own tanks.
There were:
| Type | Engine | Armament | Armor |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.~MG KA | V8 air-cooled | 2 MG 13 | normal |
| (l.K.A.1) | Kp 85 PS | ||
| 2.~2 cm KA | V8 air-cooled | 2 cm MG | nonnal |
| (1.K.A.2) | Kp 85 PS I MG 13 | ||
| The same chassis for both Kampfwagen. If demanded, a 90 horsepower water-cooled Ford V8 engine is planned. | |||
| 3.~2 cm KAv | V8 air-cooled | 2 cm MG | thicker |
| Kp 130 PS | 1 MG 13 | ||
| 4.~4.5 cm KA | V8 air-cooled | 4.5 cm K. | normal |
| (m.KA) | Kp 130 PS | 2 MG 13 | |
| The same chassis for both Karnpfwagen. If demanded, a Maybach water-cooled engine is planned. | |||
| 5.~4.5 cm KAv | 300 PS | 4.5 cm K. | thicker |
| 2 MG 13 | |||
| 6.~7.5 cm KA | 300 PS | 7.5 cm K. | normal |
| 2 MG 13 |
(Normal is 16mm and thicker is 30mm as far as i can tell)
The M.K.A. in its build form was started in 1938/1939 and finished in 1939/1940.
The Trail vehicle (Versuchsfahrzeug) was build with 25mm frontal armor and 18mm side armor, with a weight of 12 tons and the Maybach HL 98 Motor (200kg with 230-250 PS at 2600-3000 RPM) installed, which was however later to be replaced by the weaker HL 76 with just 200 PS which however was aparently never build. Instead for the time being for future prototypes also the Maybach D.S.O.8 Motor (155 PS at 2600 RPM) was recommended, since it already worked well in towing vehicles.
To protect equipment of the Wehrmacht from being copied and used by other nations, they gave 14 restictions to Krupp:
I. Only a straight monocular or fixed angular telescopic
gunsight (such as the Ceha- telescope from Askania) or a
periscopic gunsight without removable head can be used.
-
Slip ring contacts are allowable for conducting electricity to the turret.
-
Visors for vision ports can have internal hinges but
cannot have overlapping edges exceeding 1 mm wide. Additional locks are not lo be used. -
Rigidly mounted protective glass up to 12 mm thick is
allowed behind the vision slits. The vision slits are to be
cut into flat visor plates and are not to be less than 5.5 mm
wide. External ridges to protect !he vision slits are to be
sloped at less than 4 degrees. -
Sealing frames for the visors are not to have rubber inserts. Armor plates for covering the vision slits are not to be delivered.
-
The detailed design of the gun mantle is to be presented for approval on a case-by-case basis. It cam be patterned after the first model of thegun mantle for the Pz.Kpfw.I.
-
Rigidly mounted rod antenna without springs or rigid frame antenna are allowable.
-
If a radio is requested, expanding rubber stripes are allowable in the mounting.
-
All types of hinges are to be made out of normal steel, not armor.
-
It is allowable to use the model of traversing gear for the Pz.Kpfw.I. Steel cables are to be used as the connecting linkag for firing the machineguns.
-
Only a simple ball-bearing race can be used/or the turret mounting.
-
Only normal bolts with heads or countersunk can be used.
-
The turret design must be either round with 10 degree sloping sides or a symmetrical truncated pyramid shape.
-
The German model for mounling an anli-aircraft machinegun is not to be used.
However later on in October 1937 Oberstlt. Phillips send a letter to Krupp, not approving of the export, because the armor is thicker than 13mm (which is the minimum requirement for proofing against 7,92mm S.m.K. ammo as well as the engine compartment and cooling system desing is too closely related to the latest finding of the Heereswaffenamt and is being used by the newest tank desings as well as were difficult and expensive finding.
Armarment:
4,5 cm KwK L/50 (unknown amount of ammo) 2x 7,92 mm MG 13
Elevation: -10 to +20°
Traverse: 360° at ~20-25°/sec Including free traverse as seen on Pz I (see restriction 10)
4,5 cm PaK/KwK L/50 Krupp
A light 45mm tank and anti tank gun, mainly designt for export as an AT gun as well as main armarment of the M.K.A. (Mittlerer Kampfwagen für Ausland (Medium Tank for Abroad/Export)) which was also produced, and would have been one of the best, however with the outbreak of WW2 the whole project was abandond, overall the gun was slightly weaker than the russian 45mm gun.
With lots of different round models developed, i will only show here the 6 most interesting, as the rest are only minor changes.
