List of "SPAA" Vehicles that should really just be Light tanks. A decent amount of nations and vehicles

Currently in war thunder there are a decent amount of auto-cannon equipped light vehicles, That are either Scout cars/tanks or IFVs that are designated SPAA with no benefit to its playstyle.

So, I have condensed a list of vehicles that most definetly should be re-designated as “Light Tanks” and get scouting and other benefits of light tanks to entertain a scout and scoot playstyle as these vehicles are really not all that great at the job they are attempted to be forced into.

Re-designating the SPAA to a light tanks offers more usages and scouting to help your ennemy, and your gun is good at defending itself against attack,

Germany:
Sd.Kfz.222
Wiesel 1A4

USSR:
ZSU-23-4M2 (No radar, made for Convoy fire support. So why not.)

Japan:
SUB-I-II

China:
(Chinese) Sd.Kfz.222
ZSL92

Italy:
R3 T20 FA-HS

France:
AMX-10P

Sweden:
U-SH 204Gk

What vehicles should be redesignated into light tanks. If any,
  • Sd.Kfz.222
  • Wiesel 1A4
  • ZSU-23-4M2 (No radar, made for Convoy fire support. So why not.)
  • SUB-I-II
  • (Chinese) Sd.Kfz.222
  • ZSL92
  • R3 T20 FA-HS
  • AMX-10P
  • U-SH 204Gk
  • No, thanks

SPAA designation gives them a lower spawn cost separate from the standard increase from normal tanks.
So the SPAA designation is a buff.

Except they do not recieve Spotting and reduced Airspawn costs, that would make them alot more useful. That would make them more ideal for you to run around and spot enemies and take out lighter tanks or sides of tanks and on occasion perhaps shoot a aircraft if you must.

I don’t play most of the others, so I can’t comment on them, but the Wiesel 1a4 does get scouting. The only thing reclassifying it would do is remove the ammo box, which it needs imo.

Most of the ones you listed do have scouting.

Huh- Then the question is Why dont all of them (apart from the ZSU-23-4 since that Works like an SPAA at the br Most of the time ofc)

ZSL-92 has been denied APDS so it might as well stay here with the 100% fake loadout.

Do we not name a tank by its original purpouse? In real life, it should be used as a SPAA, but we player use it for anti evreything, right? I dont think we need to changed certain Spaa to light tanks

The best way, in my opinion, to deal with these vehicles is to retain them as SPAA but give them the scouting ability so they can keep the ammo box and low SP cost. Would go a long way to make them a bit more usable.
Or we can create a new category of vehicles, like a “Special Category Combat Vehicle”, with vehicles that get some unique combinations of features that the regular vehicles classes doesn’t have. We could at the same time throw in some of the ARVs with armaments in that category, and anything else that’s difficult to categorize.

They could recive both Scout and SPAA role, thats not the problem, however stuff like the 222 wouldnt get Scout anyway, since its rank I. And SPAA was IRL a 2nd role of the 222, thats the whole point why it recived the Sockellafette.

Maybe to shoot at not only other scout vehicles but scout planes 😄

This one makes a lot of sense as it only has +45* of gun elevation which is woefully inadequate for an SPAA

Japan is severely lacking for SPAA and doesn’t need any removed, that would leave a huge gap from 4.0 to 7.3 with no SPAA

i see, well in that case it can stay an spaa or as ghostmaxi suggested, all remain SPAA and get scouting with the lower SP cost and all

That would be preferable, You would jump from the Dusters straight to the Thai M-163 if you moved out the SUB-1-11.
The Weasal on the other hand has the Luchs at the same BR with better gun elevation so it would not create a gap

luchs is oddly enough a Light tank despite being a buss of a vehicle and less agile than the weasel

Yeah, Gaijin has shoehorned in quite a few infantry support vehicles to fill SPAA gaps, I don’t see why the should not have scouting even as SPAAs in game.
I’m just saying the Weasel would make more sense to move out and classify as a light tank as it has significantly worse gun elevation +45* compared to the Luchs +69*
Also adding scouting to SPAAs would give people that have had to pull them due to lack of SP to get back into the fight even if there is no air up.

I completely disagree with the assigning of ahistorical vehicle classes for gameplay purposes. BR should be used to balance instead, alongside careful use of other less intrusive balance methods.

Ahistorical…
Many vehicles that were used in the anti-air role are in this list.
The specification in-game is purely for spawn point allocation in realistic battles at this time.
The fact M18 went from TD to light tank was in part to change its spawn cost. It was both a light tank and a TD in its service, and both are valid classifications as well.

M18 is a good example, a tank destroyer that was used for reconnaissance. Still a TD though and it wouldn’t be the first TD to receive Scouting.

If the spawn point system is not suitable for purpose and causes such visible inaccuracies as ahistorical vehicle class, it should be changed.
