Let’s talk about the Chieftain

Caer being a F#rry confirmed?

Dont you start

Granted I haven’t spaded my mk3, but on a flat surface I reached around 29km/h. Acceleration might as well be a foreign concept to the thing…

I still think we need another round of decompression around that BR bracket:

  • Chieftain Mk 3 stays at 8.7
  • Chieftain Mk 5 goes up to 9.0 but gets missing LRF and L15A5
  • Add Chieftain Mk 5/4 at 9.3 gets L15A5 as stock ammo, L23A1 as top ammo.
  • Khalid stays at 9.3 but gets L15A5
  • Chieftain Mk 10 goes up to 9.7 remove L15A3 as stock shell and swap with L15A5, swap L23 with L23A1, and give it a Mk 11 tier IV mod that adds TOGS

Done, all Chieftains are useful.

I would leave the Chieftain Mk3 as is, give the Chieftain Mk5 0.3 more Br for its greater engine power and the L15A5 and then the Chieftain Mk10 in Br9.7 with the L23A1, it is reported and accepted that the Chieftain uses the L23A1, since in British munitions there are no simple versions, that is, there is no L28, it is L28A1, and there is no L23, it is L23A1.
Aside from that, they should already run the Chieftain’s armor.

Chieftains are fine where they are.

I believe the common idea that the chieftain has good armor is due to having to grind the centurions before it. They don’t have good armor, so having meh armor is like a gift from god (imo)

unless its the mk10 which is so goateed at 9.0

Chieftain turret armour is decent in a downtier honestly aside from heat slingers.
The main draw is the great gun.

40% reliability does that to you…

I used to think whoever gave the contract to leyland shot us in the foot early on in development but to give them credit. They pulled out the most ludicrous way to get a multi fuel engine to work, although i guess work is a strong word in this case. A super charged two stroke multi fuel engine… Its like they grabbed a handful of thumbtack and threw them at a board of ideas and chose what stuck.

Not so sure about the brs. The mk10 is one of the most balanced tanks in the game to me. Its not overly dominating in a downtier as the hull is still very weak along with its long reload while not being completely stomped in a full uptier. You move it up and suddenly its going to be facing turms who can just go right through its chobum like butter all for some gen 1 thermals?

The mk 5/4 would be fine at 9.0 as all it would be is a mk 10 without chobum, thus making it slightly more mobile for less armour, a khalid at home.

You stick a mk 11 at 9.7 and youll see it be played by a grand total of no one as it faces leopard 2s every game, even with l23a1 it would still struggle horrendously. 9.3 would suit it fine as it would be analogous to the oliphant mk 2. Thermals mean very little when bellow gen 2.

No, the armour is quite good in a hull down position, mainly due to the fact where people pen you limits the amount of crew killed to 1 or 2 meaning youll survive the first pen most of the time, which is more than can be said for the challenger 2s…

Ive been playing britain so long anything above 30kph is blinding for me so i wont comment on the speed but i never found myself lacking the ability to reach sniping spots. Its more of the turning that gets me, it feels like its fighting you at every corner.

multifuel was the way NATO wanted to go in the late 50s and 2 stroke has double the power strokes per cycle compared to a more normal engine, within context it made perfect sense. i just wasn’t executed all too well like everything out of leyland. even my car which is only 22 years old has problems heralding from the leyland days. its impressive how consistently jank their engineering was

Funny how unreliable they made a two stroke engine of all things, the very thing thats meant to be more rugged than the 4 stroke. Love how most of the faults about the cheiftains can be related to the decision to be the only country to stick to the multi fuel engine. Went from a 40t concept to a 55t tank that produced similar hp to the tank it was replacing.

two stroke probably isnt meant to have around 20L of displacement and opposing pistons tbf.

there were plenty of sacrifices made for all that armour

I wholeheartedly agree, I was playing the mk 3 today, and I realized that one of the reasons I don’t like city maps in the chieftain is because every time I take a turn I end up losing all of my speed, it takes me another 15 seconds to get back up to the measly 25kph I had been travelling

Dont even get me started on the neutral traverse. Its the same with most british tanks from the cromwell. Somehow giving it neutral traverse makes it even worse at nuetral turning to the same begrudging turning all of them have… They really need to do a new traction and engine rework thats the complete opposite of what they did in hot trash.

That would work if htey actually bothred to fix the fking L15A5 :(

that would be bliss though id love the Mk5/4 as well as the mk5 to ge tits proper kit.

Also the Engine and Armour buffs our favourite document leaker has shared with us.

That’s what I’m saying. Instead of people constantly asking for it to go down, just do another BR decompression and leave it at 8.7.
