Less rewards for bringing more bombs?

Noticed if i bring 8 500kg bombs on my su22 I get about half the score rp and sl per base than if I bring 4.

Can someone explain this?

I also noticed using rocket pods lower rewards too.

Gaijin changed the point multiplier of all bombs in the game (obviously the change is a nerf)

I know that why do i get punished for bringing 8 bombs vs 4?

I don’t know, I don’t have an answer for that, gaijin should answer what was the basis for the nerf of the different bomb loads

I would imagine it would be to keep it more fair so more people can get bases and 1 undertiered fast plane with big bomb load doesn’t take multiple. Yet that seems like the worst way to balance it, because I still see clueless tornados bombing 3 bases just to get the same 500 or so score they would bombing 1.

This is one of those weird mechanics to keep the rewards on desired (by Gaijin) levels. It doesn’t make sense and it doesn’t take into consideration that bombers will heavy bomb load are heavier, slower and less maneuverable.

You can say that this change buffed light bombers and nerfed heavy bombers significantly. You can read more about this system here:

Since this article was published, they adjusted the system a few times (so don’t look at the attached spreadsheet), but it still works the same way, just the values are different.

The most important thing is, there is no sense to look at things like bombs weight or their TNT equivalent, because the possible rewards are determined by the selected bomb load when you spawn a plane.

At the moment it seems to me that several small, light bombs score more points for the entire base than larger ones, regardless of the amount of TNT.
I have no idea how it relates to missiles and airfields on Air Sim count differently again

thanks this is what I was looking for.

Literally everyone I told this to in matches was telling me i was retarded and thats not how it works, so id say the community has NO IDEA about this at all.

“all bombs”: This is imho not correct.

I use the 3.7 BP B7A2 in Air RB daily. 9 x 60 kg (out of 10) still kills every base (thx to small bomb bonus 0.22 tons of TNT kills a base with a 0.5 ton health) and the mission score & the SL / RP gain is unchanged.

It looks like that a hell of larger bombs have multiplier “issues”, but this is not valid for “all” and there might be also game mode specific issues to be considered.

Because this system is counterintuitive. It’s made purely, so the devs can control the rewards on specific planes. They can change multipliers for specific planes and specific bomb loads silently at any time they want.

I learned about this, after I wrote a suggestion to add “Total TNT equivalent” for bomb loads (I thought everything is determined by TNT equivalent, which would actually make sense):

Yes, this is actually another “funny” story in War Thunder’s history.

  1. The devs wanted to reduce rewards of specific strike aircraft/bombers, so they can keep them at lower BRs (while increasing BRs of fighters during the decompression):
  1. Players were in general very unhappy about these plans. You can read comments in the mentioned topic.

  2. About two months later, the devs “found a bug” with too high rockets damage, that allowed them to do exactly what they wanted and reduce rewards for specific planes and specific bomb loads, without even asking players. You can see exactly which multipliers were changed in the datamines here:

Problem solved! ;)

Like every system, the system that “balances” possible rewards by multipliers can also be abused. There are planes with specific bomb loads that, if played correctly, can give crazy score results, thanks to their multipliers:

Some light bombers have crazy multipliers, because these multipliers are determined by the global stats. And not every player play the bomber correctly. In fact, most players don’t know how to play bombers, especially at lower ranks. So you can abuse these multipliers, but you have to use specific planes with specific bomb loads.
