Biggest thing you would get with Leopard 2A8 is Trophy APS. Which would bring Germany in line with other top tier nations with APS now that U.S. got it.
2A8 also appears to have improved add-on armor but that’s harder to prove and knowing gaijin it’ll just be same armor profile as 2A7V with roof armor as well.
I mean dm73 unless it’s really nerfed would be about 700mm but the main thing is still the lack of anti era because gajin doesn’t understand German

Their statement against adding anti-ERA capabilities to DM53 was so incredibly idiotic it was kind of impressive.
Not only did the source explicitly state that the “third generation” ERA DM53 was struggling against was relikt (something gaijin devs pretended not to see, much like they pretended not to see the IRIS-T manufacturers explicit claim IRIS-T’s seeker is highly resistant to “jamming lasers” like LDIRCM in-game), the devs are effectively stating that yes, DM53 HAS anti-ERA capabilities as per the document, but that the document doesnt state against which ERA specifically, so they arent adding it and german mains can kick rocks (as usual)
Kind of also reminds me of the situation with the Leo 2A7V’s new transmission…
- German bug reporters: “Document states that 2A7V transmission was modified, lowering the top speed to 63kph in exchange for returning the acceleration to the same levels seen on the 2A4”
- Gaijin devs: “Ah but the document doesnt provide the EXACT GEAR RATIO FOR EACH GEAR IN THE TRANSMISSION, THEREFORE WE ARENT MODELLING THE INCREASED ACCELERATION, ONLY THE DECREASED TOP SPEED!!! HAHAHAHAH CHECKMATE IDIOTS, WE’RE NEVER GOING TO MODEL ANYTHING GERMAN PROPERLY!!!”
The random levels of details required for bug reports by nations is staggering.
For more tanks yeah, I agree. And capabilities of the shell won’t matter since anything 500+ is good enough. What I saw is the biggest benefit would be APS for the lineup other than that it will just be no different than using a backup.
I’m REALLY curious to see how gaijin goes about modelling the 2A8 vs Strv123, since the Strv123 an upgrade of the Strv122 to the 2A8 standard basically, and currently the Strv122 has notably better armour than the 2A7V.
123A is a 2a7. Not a 2a8 realistically it’ll be 2a7V/2a7HU armour what is worse then the 122 unless ofc they finally give the leopard 2 DM rework

Good point. Gajin’s stretch to make 30 yo swedish tanks just better than current new developments backfires. Ingame Swedish 122’s are indeed superior to up to date German tech. But in real Sweden plans to “upgrade” its 122 fleet to match current German models. Its just hilarious and they don’t even notice.
