Basic Background

Singapore has owned the Leopard 2 battle tank since mid-2007. The originally used Leopard 2A4s came from the Bundeswehr’s stocks and replaced the older AMX-13s. When the contract was signed at the end of 2006, 96 vehicles were initially ordered, 30 of which were intended for spare parts. Due to the increased demand, the number of operational vehicles increased, so that in 2007 a total of 102 Leopard 2s were in service. In May 2014 it was announced that further tanks of this type had been exported to Singapore since 2012. The exact number of units in this delivery was classified as confidential and passed on to the secret service of the German Bundestag. According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), this increased the total number of Leopard 2s in Singapore to 182.
The Leopard 2SG was used for the first time in the Wallaby exercise in Australia at the end of 2008. To increase the protection concept, the tanks were subsequently equipped with the Leopard 2 Evolution package from IBD Deisenroth Engineering and presented to the public in 2010.

The Leopard 2A4SG Overall

The Leopard 2A4SG (sometimes also referred as Leopard 2SG Phase 1) is a standard Leopard 2A4 with B-Tech armor which has already received the first upgrades of the SG spec. A new AC system has been installed on the rear of the turret, and there may already be an electric turret drive internally as well as spall liners. Nothing is known about further changes or the official designation of this variant of the Leopard 2SG (their OPSEC still works excellently, had a hard time finding good pcitures of it to).
The Leopard 2A4SG is equipped with an MTU MB-837 Ka501 diesel engine that delivers 1500 hp - and reaches an official maximum road speed of 68 / -31 km/h and weighs 58.7 tons.
The firepower of the Leopard 2SG is identical to that of the others; 120mm L/44 which fires with DM13, DM33 and DM63, as well as DM12A1 and DM11.
