On the Leopards 2A5,A6,PSO why does the gunner sight get generation one thermals (@12.0!) whilst the commander sight gets gen two? Wouldnt it make sense to just give the gunner gen two thermo?

The Leo 2s started out with just having the first generation WBG-X thermal sight for the EMES 15 up to the A4, which presumably was the best available at the time. Then when the A5s were introduced, I guess they didn’t bother upgrading the gunner sight system (just moved the optics onto the turret roof), while the new PERI-R17 A2 commander sight would’ve had the latest technology from the 90s, which presumably was second generation. Why they didn’t bother? You’ll probably have to ask an engineer at Krauss-Maffei for an answer.
