Leopard 1 is the first variant of the Leopard 1 main battle tank family. The Leopard 1, which entered service in 1965, is one of the most iconic Cold War main battle tanks. Today I am going to talk why Leopard 1 suffers. First Leopard 1 is getting uptiered constantly , because it’s BR is 8.0 which is perfect for getting uptiered by 9.0 tanks . Second Leopard 1 never get downtiered , if you are lucky you get overpowered 8.3 tanks like M3 Bradley, T-10M and T95E1. The last thing abaout suffering of Leopard 1 is it’s awful apds shell, this apds shell barely do damage if it pens. In conclusion it’s BR should lowered to 7.7.

can you tell why it could not go to 7,7 ? it is un-stabilazed and it does not have laser rangefinder. just like Centarion MK-3
much more mobile than centurion, better gun& round(centurion shatters whenever it gets even CLOSE to the advertised pen, more spall), better turret drive, better optics, more first stage ammo stowage.

Its BR is too high. No armor, no stab and just heat fs as main shell.
Its very vulnerable to autocannon fire as well. So its not a viable tank. Its brrrp brrrp (like Falcon) and 4 Leopard 1 are down at once.
Just don’t play it. Gajin will notice at some point and puts it back to 7.7.
Luckily people already took a proper look at this issue and put it into nice and dandy graph for us to see.
So indeed, 8.0 is one of those BRs that is uptiered frequently.
THAT being said
calling T95E1 overpowered is stretching the term overpowered to its absolute limits. That thing needs to go down to 8.0 yesterday.
its actually a pretty standard APDS shell for this BR for 105mm guns.

Its mainly cause its German and ppl stil think its as good as years ago. As it was introduced.
But WT shifted alot since then. Its speed is not special anymore. High pen autocannon ammunition spreaded alot at this BRs, making Leopard 1’s armor absolutely pointless. Also maps changed to smaller sizes and shorter line of sights, a death blow to alot Ger tanks.

Looks like a 2.5km rangefinder to me.
It doesn’t have to be LRF to be effective.
Especially since 9.0 was heavily decompressed and the Leopard 1 no longer faces most of what was 8.7 and 9.0 in the past.

Mobility, 105L7, and good enough armour to absorb stuff. Maybe a decompression for 9.0 matches but it’s not going down

you’re describing the AMX-30, the leo has great apds for the BR to use (though not as good as the apds on the m60aos)
The Leopard 1 is only iconic because it was produced and used in relatively large numbers by several nations. However, being ‘iconic’ does not necessarily mean that it was or has to be good. Historically speaking, the Leopard 1 was pretty underwhelming and undertiered when you consider the date of its introduction. The same applies to the A1A1 and 1A5 variants. There’s only so much you can do to make a bad tank competitive.
It is one of the worst 8.0s. Terrible armour, average firepower, underwhelming mobility that’s not nearly as good as people make it out to be. And it doesn’t help that the directly upgraded 1A2 and OF-40 ade the same BR, or that Britian gets basically the exact same vehicle but stabilized in the Vickers.
But can it go to 7.7? Not really. The firepower would be simply too strong to face 6.7s.
The Leopard 1 would be in a much better position if it just had some support in uptiers. Germany is one of only two nations without a stabilized TT MBT below 9.0, and that 9.0 is the A1A1 which is actually overtiered. If there was simply a decent, stabilized, 8.3 MBT like the Leopard 1A3 the Leopard 1 wouldn’t feel quite as bad.
any lower it basically gonna face WW2 tank. You got some 350+mm of APDS pentraction which is great for it BR. You just gotta learn how to play it properly. There are even worse tank then the Leo 1 at it own BR.

Test driving it, it is quite mobile and the gun handling isn’t that bad even at high speeds. This thing seems pretty alright for an 8.0. HEAT-FS is high velocity and good pen, apds seems completely adequate for the rating, not really sure where the issue is. Armour isn’t really all that important at the rating, as the guns tend to eclipse even the well armoured options, in my experience.
Wish most of my 8.0 lines had kit this nice 😿
They have same gun L7 105mm
The MK10 has the L7. the Mk3 has the 84mm.
