The LD35L, also known as the SWS3, is a 35mm gun-missile integrated self-propelled anti-aircraft system based on the Dongfeng Mengshi third-generation armored vehicle 6×6 chassis. It is primarily designed to engage low-altitude threats including drones, helicopters, missiles, and fixed-wing aircraft.
Dongfeng Off-Road Vehicle Co., Ltd., established in 2002, holds exclusive responsibility for the research, development, and manufacturing of the fully indigenous Dongfeng Mengshi series of high-mobility military off-road vehicles. The Dongfeng Mengshi is China’s first third-generation high-mobility military off-road vehicle, representing a leapfrog development in military equipment. It also plays a positive role in promoting China’s independent automotive R&D capabilities.The vehicle features extra-long-travel independent suspension, a flexible frame and body structure, enabling adaptation to greater ground height variations and increasing the contact probability between tires and undulating terrain. Its full-time 4WD system offers high and low ranges, with an inter-axle differential lock. The combination of inter-wheel limited-slip differentials and the ASR system (Acceleration Slip Regulation—an electronic control system preventing wheel spin during acceleration) significantly enhances its off-road mobility.The product line has evolved into a platform-based, systematic, and modular family of light tactical military vehicles, rigorously tested in extreme environments including high-temperature, frigid, and high-altitude conditions.
The third-generation Dongfeng Mengshi armored vehicle has spawned multiple variants, including 6×6 chassis configurations that serve as platforms for specialized derivatives such as radar vehicles, troop carriers, and the LD35L air defense variant. There’s almost no task it can’t handle. Compared to its first two generations, the third-generation Mengshi functions more like a “light truck” – and an armored one at that. Simultaneously, the Mengshi offers greater flexibility than traditional tracked armored vehicles. The Dongfeng Mengshi Gen 3 features run-flat tires, enabling it to travel at least 30 km at speeds of 30-40 km/h even with two flat tires. Its fuel tank incorporates explosion suppression measures.

Key features of the LD35L:
- Primary armament: A 35mm revolver cannon mounted along the turret’s longitudinal axis with a firing rate of 1,000 rounds/minute, capable of deploying AHEAD, APDS, and HE ammunition
- Ammunition system: Symmetrical detachable ammunition boxes on both sides of the turret bracket enabling dual-channel feeding, with spent casing ejection ports above the containers
- Secondary armament: Two FB10A surface-to-air missiles featuring dual-mode guidance (mid-course command update + terminal infrared guidance) with 17km range, mounted on hydraulically-driven independent elevation launchers
- Sensor suite: Integrated search radar, tracking radar, and electro-optical targeting systems
- Crew compartment: Driver and commander seated side-by-side
- Powerplant: Dongfeng Cummins ISDe300 40 diesel engine delivering 221kW (300hp) at 2,500rpm, generating 1,100N·m peak torque at 1,400rpm, enabling 100km/h maximum road speed
