4. History
The LAV-25 was developed in the early 1980s, based on the Swiss MOWAG Piranha, and adapted for the USMC. It entered service in 1983 and has been used in numerous operations including Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom. Over time, it received various upgrades including thermal optics and improved armor kits.
Despite its age, the LAV-25 remains in active service as of the 2020s and is slated to be replaced gradually by newer vehicles like the ARV (Advanced Reconnaissance Vehicle), but its legacy in the US military and pop culture remains strong.

- LAV-25A1 / A2: Upgraded with thermal sights, improved armor, and modern battlefield electronics.
