That’s fair. I think there are plenty of things in RB you could say are a bit cheesy / hand-holdy. Be that the kill camera. The fact you can MG someones tracks to see where their ammo is stored, scout marks, hit marks etc.
Some people like some of these, some people hate some of these. Feel like snails trying to strike that balance between realism & accessibility in a way many will have conflicting feelings on. Idk what the right answer is, whether they should be there or not, or whether their downsides outweigh their purpose. All feels too subjective and situational.
I would just be hesitant about gutting RB into a more ruthless environment whilst so many of the maps are so poor. The last thing i want to see is the entire flank of both sides spawns being turned into red out of bounds zones lol.
Yeah I think I know that spot, but it can easily be countered from several different angles so I don’t think it’s that egregious, other than the fact you need to cosplay as a mountain goat to get up there. Of course, if we think of the same spot.
Sure thing, I think they did a good job by reducing amount of information kill cam gives out, which is always a positive. I’d rather see Gaijin finally rework maps so they are better experience for every vehicle class, so they can move the kill cams to the end game screen or something.
Of course, even Simulator is far away from real life experience.
My only problem with kill cam is that it hurts good plays/flanks made by vehicles that thrive in such environments.
That being said, even with kill cam it isn’t that bad as most people aren’t very good and your biggest enemy is revenge CAS plenty of times.
I do get that, and i’ve been on this end of it many times.
It’s particularly noticeable on the smaller maps where you get a flank on someone, take him out, and within 10 seconds he’s already called arty on you from beyond the grave lol.
Yeah lmao. It’s super cheesy against Leopards 2’s who have their overflow rack behind the LFP. Hit the track right next to where that rack is and you can see if its worth aiming for or not lol.
Plenty of maps are meh at best, but players play a big role in that spawn camping problem as well. I can’t recall how many times I’ve seen teams totally ignoring flanks just to have fast, ratty boi do the “funni” and clap the cheeks of 4-5 people in matter of seconds, just because they left flanks unchecked allowing the rat to just drive around like it’s free.
Good old arty toss, especially annoying on those rat vehicles with barely any armor.
Aye. Always seems to be one extreme or the other. People completely ignoring flanks and getting spanked. Or completely ignoring everything but the flanks, and losing the game because too focused on trying to rush spawn down the map border lol.
I do have a bit of sympathy towards the former though, because defending map borders on those massive maps like Euro Province / Poland / Fulda etc can often be a pretty thankless job (and if nothing comes down it, entirely unrewarding too).
Ikr. Almost finished my challenge of grinding all HU/ROM stuff using only HU/ROM stuff, so was stuck using BTR80 / ZSU57 for ages… Man… if i had a penny for everytime i got my roof bashed in by arty i’d be a very wealthy man lol.
If I’m defending the flank, I’ll take something that can easily deal with flankers so if they show up they’re basically free kills, and if they don’t show up I’ll take the “invitation” and do my own flank on a wide open side of the map, which has been left unchecked for some reason.
I actually hate the kill cam, especially the hit indicator. Those make it extremely unrealistic. I mean, do the crews have a superpower known as X-ray vision that allows them to see through enemy tanks to tell which crews turn orange or dead or the breech is damaged 1.5km away? also they added the counter strike hit indicator to tell you which direction the shot is from, don’t think any of these belongs to grb, maybe sim but I hadn’t played it.
Just to further expand on this point, as this is the perfect example of what happens when teams totally ignore a flank. I basically drove up on the flank early game literally uncontested and started picking off unaware spawners. I got 5-6 kills in quick succession, allowing my team to move up and take campy spots.
I wouldn’t even say this is a cheesy spot as it’s hard to come here if the enemies spread out and even when you get here, you can get pushed through multiple paths between the rocks.
No wonder Gaijin cuts down the maps, as the average player can barely focus on a single lane, let alone multiple ones.
i think killcam should just show the position the shell impacts the vehicle at, and the penetrative effects of the shell. this would lessen the repositioning and revenge bombing by not directly revealing the immediate position of the opponent.
Lessening repositioning → promoting a passive gameplay style → more deadlocked games → more boring matches. It’d also make spawncamping a hell of a lot worse.
No, that’s precisely what it is. Just look at that minimap, you’re pretty much outside the “reasonable” playable area, nearly parallel their spawn, and overtly spawncamping. This is exactly the scenario killcams (and fixed borders) exist for.
I literally drove across 95% of the map (really small one) without even getting seen once, which is a massive skill issue on the enemy’s part. Focusing on a single lane is a massive mistake, perfectly showcased here.
My play was perfectly counterable from the very start of the game and all the way till the end. It’s literally not anyone’s problem that people are lemmings.
Totally the opposite.
This is why kill cams should be removed so people can actually learn that ignoring massive parts of the map is actually a bad play that can lead to their team being surrounded.
You just want a free crutch to help with your massive lack of awareness.
