Just how incomplete is Volumetric?

Looking for hopefully answers to some gripes I have about this game recently. I don’t believe I ever played this game before the switch over but I am noticing how incomplete volumetric is sometimes. Firstly engines in tanks have no displacement and will almost always absorb none of the potential energy of fin darts and sometimes even sabot. It also seems that tracks have no effect as a side shot always pens even at angles that look impossible to pen. Going through the Protection Analysis also shows that 90% of shots will pen even at said extreme angles. This has definitely created new meta standards for top tier battles. It would be nice if Gaijin spoke about it more often along with any fixes coming in the future. I’m sure i have missed some other examples as well.
