Description: The Ju88 was a German twin-engine medium bomber made in the second world war. Designed in the late thirties, it was a very common bomber inside the Luftwaffe, with one of the biggest numbers of units made before and in the second world war, reaching over 15,100 aircraft. The Italian Air Force, Regia Aeronautica, started to show interest at the start of 1943, since the Italian industry was unable to replace the high number of bombers that were lost during the three years of conflict due to the lack of industrialization and materials. Initially, a request for 24 Ju88s was forwarded (followed by a pretty absurd one for 600 units that was rapidly denied), with the first five units arriving in Italy after the Italian crews completed their training in Germany on the 25th of April of the same year. A total of 38 additional units were delivered before the armistice occurred, and they were all in the A-4 version, minus 3-4 in the A-7 for training. The Ju88 in the Italian service didn’t see much action, performing various bombing raids against the Allied presence in the Mediterranean and in Sicily after the operation Husky, but overall, they were very appreciated by the Italian aviators, who liked them for their bombing precision, flight performances even with one engine, and radio equipment. After the armistice, the various Ju88s were probably kept on the ground and destroyed, as there isn’t any information regarding any use by the ANR or the Aviazione Cobelligerante. Additionally, it’s possible that during the Italian service the Ju88 was equipped with both Italian and German bombs, since the Regia Aeronautica had these in stock since the first Stukas were delivered in 1940.

Why it should be in game: It could be a nice bomber for low tier, maiby it be implemented as an event reward or as a low price premium.

Have in mind that i tried years ago to convince gaijin to think about a rather cheap roll-out of an Italian version. The discussion ended as there was nobody within the Tech mods willing to use a pragmatic approach to this.

The discussion popped up as a Swedish tech mod insisting for a Finnish manual with described the field kit which installed a 20 mm MG FF/M. The German Tech mod was hesitant to interfere - despite the availability and usage was proven within the German manual. I found an old post from 2022 dealing (partially) with this mess…

I see the Ju 88 A-4 as heavily overtiered - the plane saw a BR increase from 2.3 to 3.0 within a few months due to the implementation as Finnish aircraft in the Swedish TT.

But imho the plane has a way higher survival rate than the 3.7 P-108 - and since 2 x C 250 Flamm kills a base you can kill up to 6 bases (depending on BR and in case enemy fighters have a day off) when u are using the 28 x SC 50 internally too.

Have a good one!
