JH-7A HUD Missing Features

Found a couple bugs with the JH-7A HUD.

  1. Missing CCRP indicators of any kind, good luck using this in sim battles
    Community Bug Reporting System

  2. Missing radar lock indicator
    Community Bug Reporting System

I did notice some bug reports for namely Chinese aircraft getting closed for no reason?

@Gunjob sorry to ping you directly but I am curious and a bit concerned why this bug report got closed: Community Bug Reporting System yet this report was approved and got fixed: Community Bug Reporting System

I just don’t want this to devolve into a “prove the JH-7A HUD can do this” when we all know the HUD is capable of doing the bare basics… Even the J-7E and J-7D HUD can do both of these features.

EDIT: no way, they are gonna deny the CCRP report without additional information. WTF, seriously this is getting old. Gaijin themselves doesn’t even know what the HUD looks like, as if we can get detailed information on it. Do they think China is just stuck in the 50’s and would give a modern aircraft no CCRP indicator when it’s dedicated role is ground attack? Truly baffling.

JH-7A HUD seems to be copy pasted from J-8B for some reason

Good catch, I thought it looked familiar. Not sure why they decided to use the J-8B HUD then, the J-8F entered service in ~2000 and the JH-7A was in ~2004. Can’t imagine a newer plane dedicated to ground attack not having CCRP on the HUD… nor that they emphasized defensive capabilities lacking even radar indicator that the J-8F has…

who knows whole plane hell the whole patch feels rushed

It seems like it a was a ‘minor’ major patch in order to get Dec’s patch out the door. F-15A MSIP hopium.

Unfortunately, few aircraft, if any, come to the game with a completed cockpit HUD. I know several with critical HUD information that just isnt displayed (and have been in the game for 6+ Months). Its annoying they treat as such a low Priority and by extension SB. Especially for an aircraft like this that is best suited for SB (for air gamemode)

yeah some aircraft like the MiG-23’s have had wrong HUDs for over 2 years and im sure there are many like this too, its a shame too cause simulator mode has so much potential if gaijan just paid a little more attention to detail

It wouldn’t even be an issue if they used the HUD from the J-8F, the features work on that. The HUD model used is the same on both aircraft, I don’t understand why they copied the J-8B HUD. As for guided bomb CCRP, I’ve heard that the F-16’s HUD can do that now, but I haven’t been able to verify it.

for GBUs. No cockpit can do it “normally” because the ballisitc computer does not work with GBUs. But if you take a conventional bomb at the same time, then you can access the CCRP interface on the GBUs, the release timer will work, but not hte automatic release. (though it could have been updated in the last patch for just the F-16)

Its kinda crazy that it does work, but they just dont allow it work without what is essentially a bug.

But yeah, that seems kinda stupid they didnt C&P it over. But many aircraft have woeful cockpit HUDs. Tornado F3 would be somewhat tolerable in SB but it has no radar symbology at all. The only way to tell what TWS is locked onto is to arm a 9L. Should display a symbol on the HUD for all radar contacts

If they spent an entire update on nothing but fixing SB (and related issues like cockpits) . They could wipe out the sim game competition and make an outstanding gamemode for WT, couple it with an RB EC gamemode for those not wanting cockpit only and no markers and you’d make an exceptional improvement for a LOT of the playerbase. I just dont understand why they ignore SB so much

Sad to see so many planes in this state. Seems the Tornado F.3 is known about the radar indicator bug in the HUD: Community Bug Reporting System so maybe someday it will get fixed

Yeah, it got reported basically day 1 of the Tornado being added. Flame does some seriously good work for a lot of aircraft. The Sea Harrier FRS1 (despite them spending 9 months totally remaking hte cockpit) still has a placeholder HUD

What it should look like: (probably also radar gun sight too)

Spoiler

I really dont understand why they neglect cockpits so much.

yeah its a shame because war thunder sim has the ability to directly compete with DCS if they paid more attention to detail on individual aircraft everything would be equivalent to FC3/low fidelity quality but by sheer diversity of aircraft would make sim into a viable competitor which would be good for both games (competition)

Yeah, you could 100% maintain user friendlyness/accessability. Whilst still making an awesome sim game.

Massive QoL increase right there.

In fairness I only managed to track down a Sea Harrier HUD diagram after they remodelled the cockpit, so that bug hasn’t been outstanding for as long.

Does have CCRP point marks. No bomb fall line but it does have some symbology, you need to change your sight mode once you’ve set a target point.

Interesting. In my test I was too high to be able to see the CCRP mark. HUD is still missing the fall line like you said and the radar lock indicator.

As for the bug reports, what additional information is needed? One of the mods has requested additional information but hasn’t responded with what exactly I need to provide. From my end, the other bug reports on similar issues just show screenshots and were approved.

Additional info provided doesnt show to other people. Incase its classified. so probably manuals, IRL photos, etc showing what it should be like (think flames report on the F3 HUD)

idk why more info would be needed just to prove a fall line exists on the HUD thats like the main thing about CCRP, I could understand if it was a report on if CCRP was a thing or not but if the plane has CCRP and it has a HUD it should be pretty straight forward a fall line exists

It can be, but not always. Tornado Gr1 for example doesnt, it has something… different. It has a flight director to keep you on target.

Spoiler

Tornado Manual HUD

(which hasnt been modeled yet)
