This Jais 4x4 was shown at the WDS 2022 by Saudi Arabian company SAMI, with SAMI-CMI CPWS turret.

History

Based on a South African RG35. The Jais is a family of MRAPs with a side mounted powerpack; V-shaped hull; exceptional balance between firepower, survivability, protection and mobility. This vehicle is produced by NIMR Automotive in the UAE.

The Jais is adopted into the UAE service and it even took part in the military conflict in Yemen, where it showed its capabilities of protection and crew survivability. One vehicle came under enemy fire, but kept the entire crew safe and unharmed. Later this Jais 4x4 was exhibited at IDEX 2017 under the slogan “NIMR Saves Lives” as promotion for its efficiency.

The success of Jais has interested Saudi Arabia.
The SAMI (Saudi Arabian Military Industries) and military experts arranged competitions for several vehicles. The combat proven Jais outperformed opponents and was chosen.
However, they were not interested in just some Jais from UAE production. On 25 April 2016 the Saudi government and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman launched the development program “Saudi Vision 2030” that includes localising industry, diversifying the economy, and reducing the country’s economic dependency on oil. Therefore, at the IDEX2021 SAMI and NIMR Automotive signed a Teaming Agreement, which started a cooperation to search for Jais localization opportunities in Saudi Arabia.

Similar cooperation aimed at localization, also, has been concluded before. On the 28th of January 2019 a CMI (Cockerill Mechanical Industries) signed an agreement with Saudi Arabia to create a joint venture specialized in turrets. The collaboration is called SAMI-CMI. Thus, Saudi Arabia received the license to produce CMI turrets, including the CPWS turret.

As a result, at the WDS 2022 SAMI introduced Jais 4x4 with SAMI-CMI CPWS turret and signed with NIMR a manufacturing agreement for JAIS 4×4 producing in Saudi Arabia.

Regardless of SAMI actions, in the IDEX 2023 NIMR Automotive presented Jais 4x4 with a CMI CPWS turret.

Despite, Jais SAMI-CMI and Jais CMI are absolutely the same, there is still one difference between them. It’s a meteorological sensor on the roof of the CMI CPWS turret. The SAMI-CMI CPWS doesn’t have it.

The entire Jais family can be fitted with the additional armor on the driver’s windshield. The protection is attached at three points on the upper front plate, and Jais 4x4 has them too. This protection kit also includes armor for the driver’s side windows.

The Jais 4x4 with SAMI-CMI CPWS will fit a role of high mobility scout vehicle armed with a 25mm Bushmaster. Not so fast fire rate and below 100mm penetration are not so bad. It’s enough for the flanking gameplay. The good vertical aiming angles (-10°/+60°) will allow you to fight helicopters and shoot in uneven terrain; a remote operated turret will be an advantage in hull down positions.

With additional armor on the driver’s windshield and the ability to transport troops, this vehicle may be useful in the future infantry game mode.

As mentioned earlier, the Jais SAMI-CMI CPWS has a twin: the Jais CMI CPWS. So, this vehicle can be added into two TT. If UAE and Saudi Arabian vehicles will not be in the same TT.
