JA37DI Discussion

I wasn’t comparing the Harrier and F-4F, I was talking about datalink channels and their effects on ARH guidance. I was using the AV-8B+ as an example given ingame it doesn’t have any datalink channels.

Tornado F.3 players suffer the same fate on a less capable platform yet I havent seen them whine so much. At least not to the point of moving their vehicle down

Yeah, Jakt-link when?

To be honest I think the tornado is just as capable as the F-4 in most regards except dogfighting

Clearly does have DL updates. You can see the missile trail at the top turn toward the target beyond pitbull range of AIM-120B:

TMsoon hopefully, otherwise this thing will suffer a bit at its BR. Iirc the JA37D was the first Swedish aircraft to receive datalink for ARH missiles, yet it’s not present ingame. Granted they never had a reason to give it datalink since it only had sparrows and had yet to give it AMRAAMs.

I’m not 100% sure if him saying it has no dl channels is accurate and I’m not on the game, but it doesn’t matter if it did or not, the missile is gonna go for the direction of the tws lock

DL channels should’ve stayed out until sensor fusion/Modern DL is modelled imho, it has proven to be a very problematic statistic to get the correct and accurate numbers for, for example the J-11A and Baz Meshupar (although the latter has been fixed now) both had an extremely low or non-existent DL channels at the very top, this meant that you had very little, to no chance of countering anyone firing/defending without closing the gap to terminal range and in the process removing all of the upsides of a fox-3 missile since they essentially had to be treated like a fox-1 with IOG like the ER

Give me like 10 mins, I’ll hop on and double check some things, maybe make a video or so, and get back to you.

Like I said earlier, if you launch a missile and lose lock, that missile is gonna go to the last known location of the target, whether your radar has dl channels or not. It’s just gonna be sub par for bvr since you can’t guide it yourself

First ever, actually, other than the Gripen, which used a modified version of Jakt-link, actually the JA37C did receive it in 1979.

If we talk specifically about JA37D and F-4J we can safely say that the latter is overperforming the vehicles of its BR.

Got an even better shot

I wouldnt say overperforming, it is balanced, everything the F-4 has to offer can be countered by any plane of 12.0, if you face for example a MiG-23ML you are dead on BVR and close range. if you got an uptier you dont even try since you face Su-27s

PD radar, AIM-7F, HMD, 8 missiles. Not many of ~12.0 jets have even 2 of these together. HMD especially is a gamechanger

Hmd on an F-4J really doesnt matter much considering the missiles arent great, mainly the ir ones

They work just fine and if you dont feel like using them there are six AIM-7Fs waiting for you. HMD isnt a gamechanger because of IR missiles but radar slaving alone.

Radar slaving also doesn’t matter that much when they’re only 7Fs

If you ask someone what the best 12.0 plane is they’re most likely not gonna mention an F-4

Excuse me?
