they don’t do short work of it, they go toe to toe except the f16a block 10. ADF has roughly the same thrust weight ratio and rated a tad better before sons of attilla update.
J7e has no hope against a ADF, and dies even faster to a block10
I would rather keep the J-7e at 11.0, PL-5b is probably the best out of the missiles you typically have access to at 11.0 and the Python isn’t really much of an upgrade, also, sending it to 11.3 for a slight missile upgrade would accomplish the exact opposite of what the main post wanted, moving a mig 21 airframe into range of top tier again would be terrible for it.
it’s not a mig21 airframe, it’s closer to a MiG19 and a Draken.
With the new F-16 flight model I don’t think anything will be better in a dogfight until the F-22 comes out
It’s neither and in my opinion is closer to the F/A-18 I’d guess but we don’t have that in-game do we? This is mainly because of the LERX on the F/A-18 and the double delta on the J-7E but it’s 100% not comparable to the MiG-19 or Draken.

PL-8Bs and HMD would be an amazing addition for the J-7E since it carried both.
now yes the adf is more busted, it tops 34deg/s at 720 ias but it’s a speed that is somewhat hard to keep since it has a lot of aoa that kills all retention (therefore you have to tap W for longer and more than usual resulting in a widened circle) the j7e doesn’t need much W tap. A just rates like 39deg/s which is obnoxious for anything that faces it.
No, even with the old FM.
The J7e can’t compete with any F-16A energy retention except maybe the new F-16C, but I doubt it.
the f16 will slap it (block 10) but the adf needs to nail a perfect rate fight at 720ias or the j7e will pull inside it’s turn. J7E is extremely forgiving; it rates like a MiG19 with the turn radius of a Draken.
Why would a ADF not rate at optimal speeds? Not that hard to avoid dropping from 650ias. Also, every jet had its STR nerfed in this update. Not that it makes a difference because they all got the nerf, except that the mig29 9.12 can’t abuse takeoff flaps anymore at 550ias
I tested the new FM of the J7e and it has similar STR to the F-16C. But you can just press pitch up all day and go 1c vertical if you need while the f-16 takes a bit of practice. The J7e is indeed extremely forgiving, the only thing that takes skill is to conserve ammo on it. But it’s by far my favourite 11.0 and I’m looking forward for people to grind the new jets and the 11.0 matchmaking starts seal clubbing premiums
it’s easier to keep 750 to 650 with recovery during the W tap than staying on 650. J7E has a tighter turn radius at any other speeds except when adf reaches 730 where it just turns 180 degrees in 3 seconds.
Yeah l agree. Last time I dueled a decent j7e pilot I would get him eventually in the rate fight unless he got lucky right after the merge before getting slow. I started with the block 10 and tried the block15 and 20, mig29 9.12 also. Only the F-14a was a tie, I could not get noose on him and neither could he. But ace crew is required on the f-14a otherwise I could not ratefight without passing out so often
ADF or even C now should absolutely destroy the J-7E
The C probably not, they have similar rate speed while the j7e does a better job on 1c
They should give it PL-5E at least.
PL5E is a good choice ,J7E has no BVR ability but 4 omnidirectional IR missile can make it stronger than F4E in dogfight
It is a Mig 21.
it’s flight model is far from a mig21. It has the same TWR as a MiG21 bis and retains like a MiG19 while turning like a draken. All in all, a UFO that was undefeated til the f-16a came out.
guys we want the j7e to go down to 10.7, not raise it to top tier.
Why downtier it, it’s up there with the best 11.0s already
