AIM-9G is still inferior due to the much slower speed, long burn motor and reduced G load. It’s decent, but not capable of holding a candle to missiles like PL-5B.
The most comparable AIM-9G carrier, the Kfir Gderot gets half the missiles, lower CM count and a higher BR compared to the J-7D.
Not to mention the J79 engine in the Kfir Gderot giving it great acceleration at the cost of turning the plane into a flying star when locked in rear aspect. J-7D is way colder by comparison, not even needing to throttle down as much as Kfir Gderot when defending against AIM-9L or PL-5B. I have had AIM-9L ignore flares even at 60% throttle and 2.5km range in the Kfir. Or just ignore flares frontally outright.
Well, i didn’t say that they are equal, haven’t i? But 9G is still very potent missile that will work in a wide range of situations. J-7D should never be below 11.0 in br, but with atrocious performance of little TImmies it’s kept at such a low bracket.
yeah I was going to say, wasn’t the J-7D at 11.3 or something when he made that video?
The bigger problem is that the f-16 and stuff was 12.0 and mig23ml 11.3. Basically everything was way lower and it was higher. Also he hated the J7D because the A-5C was 10.0 so a better farmer.
