The J-22M1A currently does not appear to have all of the weapon systems and capabilities that have been publicly showcased or discussed during recent exhibitions and modernization presentations.
For example, footage and photographs from the 2023 defense exhibition clearly show the aircraft displayed with GBU-16 laser-guided bombs. At the moment, these weapons are still missing despite visual evidence of their integration or planned compatibility. In addition to the GBU-16, the aircraft should realistically also be capable of employing GBU-12 guided bombs as part of its modernized strike package.
The same issue applies to air-to-air weaponry. The J-22M1A modernization program has long been associated with improved combat capability, including the integration of short-range infrared-guided missiles such as the R-60 family. However, the aircraft still lacks R-60 air-to-air missiles, even though their inclusion would be fully consistent with the modernization goals and previously discussed capabilities of the platform.
You can even enable automatic subtitles/translation on the official exhibition videos and presentations, where it is mentioned that additional guided weapon systems are still absent. Besides that, there are already multiple public references, discussions, and sources supporting the idea that the Orao platform was capable of carrying R-60 missiles or was intended to integrate them as part of its modernization efforts.
Overall, the current implementation feels incomplete compared to the publicly presented configuration of the aircraft. Adding weapons such as the GBU-12, GBU-16, and R-60 missiles would make the J-22M1A much closer to its modernized real-world representation.
