They’re not premiums.
They give you zero benefit. You make the same SL% and same RP%. Maybe a tiny bit better than TT but inconsequential compared to a real premium.
A4E skyhawk (9.3) : 1530 sl/min (Squadron)
F3H-2 (9.3): 1530 sl/min (TT)
A2D-1 (7.0, couldnt find a 9.3): 2790 SL/min.
Why in the world would I ever spend E on A4E, why in the world would I ever leave my squadron for a grind squadron to get the A4E when it gives me zero economic benefit for being obnoxiously difficult to unlock (some 150 days?)?

P-51-D20 (5.0): 2410 SL/min.
The 5.0 premium gets significantly more SL/min over the squadron skyhawk. The squadron skyhawk costs 13.4k to spawn. The P-51D20 costs 5.2k.
SB, since general thread and SB is the main reason I want premium variants of TT planes - literal 1:1 copy paste.
Just look at how much SL the 7.0 plane makes/spawn compared to the 9.3 planes.

Someone who’ll never spend any money on this game, and you’d rather them never be able to play the vehicle because it must be looked behind 100+ dollars for just the vehicle.

I just want a premium F4U-4 in the american tech tree. Or even F4U-1 and call it “Pappy’s black sheep.” or something like that. I don’t want to buy anything else (maybe also a premium horten because that thing is interesting but impossible to afford flying)
Add it as tech tree then. Not squadron.
My ideal design is all unique aircraft with viability that are reasonable to balance are tech tree. Then have 1:1 copy paste in the same nation as premiums for grind/economy boosts.
Weird things that are impossible to balance, exist solely for collectors and joyriding go to squadrons. Why? Because if not in TT and not a premium, gaijin doesn’t have to balance the vehicle to be viable so you don’t end up with a 4.0 F117 or something absurd like that since the F117 is so useless, it’d keep going down in BR as a premium or TT vehicle.
I don’t fully agree. They also allow side grades, and other planes that don’t necessarily fit into the TT, such as the Su-33, Su-22M4, F-5E FCU, SHar FRS.1, Jf-17, and the Me-262.
All of those planes deserve a place, but they don’t necessarily fit into the TT in some way. The Su-33, Su-22, SHar, and F-5E are all modifications of TT planes with some tradeoffs, and the Me-262/Jf-17 don’t need to be TT IMO.
I’d rather have something be gated behind 4 months of casual play than an entire TT.

Couldn’t they just be foldered? As for 4 months vs TT - then squadron vehicles should give research discount if they’re in a tech tree tier you have fully researched, because it’s very annoying how you have zero way to influence it beyond joining some faceless grind squadron over one with people you vibe with.
Or pay GE, which is what gaijin wants.

Then they would be worse for Gaijin (less $$$ and less attention towards them), and worse for players (because they are gated behind an entire TT). Squadron vehicle are a win-win in my opinion.
I like them because they allow me to play a high tier vehicle without needing to actually grind for one, and they allow me to experience vehicles I wouldn’t have played otherwise.

There are a lot, even more if we consider Hungary (subtree) and Romania (not a subtree, but said to be placed in the Italian TT by staff).
My custom TT (air and ground) for example:
In terms of air squadron here I chose MB-339C (one of many Aermacchi variants proposed for export), S.211A (S.211 which participated JPATS competition, which has a better engine), G.91R/3 PRTAF (R/3 variant which was upgraded to carry sidewinders).
For ground I picked M60A3 Leonardo, Ferrari F333E with Italian Folgore recoilless rifle, Centauro T60/70 (same system as on VCC-80/60) + Romanian MLVM and TR-125.

NGL it would be pretty funny if the Italians first squidron vehicle was a vessel as heh…
