In War Thunder Ground Realistic Battles, many players deliberately use minimum graphics settings to gain a competitive advantage, even if they have powerful PCs capable of running high-quality visuals. Lowering graphics often reduces or removes grass, trees, and other environmental details, making it significantly easier to spot enemies who would otherwise be concealed. This creates an unfair situation where players who prioritize visual quality are at a disadvantage compared to those exploiting minimal settings for visibility. To address this, Gaijin should ensure that key environmental elements like vegetation remain consistent across all graphics settings. Instead of removing these objects, lower settings could reduce their visual quality or render distance without affecting their presence or size, maintaining fairness while still allowing performance optimization.
Wrong, it only reduces significantly grass amount, no other asset is removed, the only true advantage Ultra Low Quality has is the less detailed non-deformable ground (which is a true advantage but in rare occasions) and less detailed lighting where it’s easier to spot a vehicle under a shadow or in darker places; grass, bushes and leafs texture are noticeable reduced, thus the advantage there doesn’t exist.
For comparison, no tree or bush is removed while on Ultra Low Quality, even with the lowest Tree range values, in live matches this doesn’t offer advantage since War Thunder maps are too small for that offer significant advantage to the player:
You can see through some solid fences at longer distance in third person but you can’t see through mesh wire fences and you can’t spot antennas/engine smoke
Pretty fair tradeoff
low graphics hurts my eyes and impair my vision. instead of seeing bodies of tanks, I see pixels with more pixels
Yes, you are 100% right, but doesn’t matter what lower graphices still has an advantage. What gaijin should do is to make things the same but lower the graphcies on that object rather than removing it. By this i mean very small objects.
what graphics do you use?
as high as possible with a few exceptions :3
do you play ground rb a lot? Because most people do use min in ground rb to see through some small grass.
I quit playing ground rb a while back after getting 9.0 Type 74E. I’ve been playing air realistic since. I get why people would use min in ground, but it mentally hurts me since I physically cannot see
just cancel old gpu support. thats it.
yeah…
I can only use min graphic because of my device
Not this discussion again.
Seriously though. War Thunder shouldn’t change anything for high-end users about the inequity in visuals against low-ends, unless Gaijin changes the entire monetization system to introduce new and tighter minimal specs, which would imply paying a price tag for the game in the first place + premium, and even then, Gaijin would get metric tons of lawsuits for arbitrary, anti-consumer practices.
In conclusion: Get good and lower your graphics accordingly if you’re willing to sweat. Everything else is beside the point.
Well it doesnt give ULQ players an advantage if they actually need to use it, I dont see a problem with it as a former 2014 Toshiba Satellite player. I never had any complaints or ever thought it was unfair
I don’t think that ULQ is this crazy good advantege that people claim it to be. Sure, the enemy can’t hide in shadows, the low Sun ain’t blocking your vision, and sometimes fences ain’t rendering on long distances. Which are certainly true but that’s about it.
There were many times since I had to switch to ultralow where I got killed because I misidentified the opponent’s vehichle because it was so low resolution, and it turned out being a much more formidable enemy.
Bush decorations seems to be stronger as well. On medium graphics there was always a fairly noticable color difference from decorations, to map foliage.
And Maybe the most annoying: good luck flying a plane in ground rb. I often hear the engines of enemy fighters before I have to zoom in to have a chance of spotting them. As long as they have the ground as background and not the sky, they blend in so perfectly, because the lack of shadows, that the majority of the time I uncertain that they model is even loaded in. I never - ever remember being this a problem in medium graphics. Spotting targets from a bomber sucks as well.
I wish lower settings just actually lowered the QUALITY of stuff instead of making it disappear.
Just display grass as a blurry and pixelated mess.
You’d see how, suddenly and totally by pure coincidence, people would start playing on higher settings…
there is also an entire ground layer not rendered on ULQ, making hulldown positions much stronger for the ULQ user since they can engage the enemy before they get a clear shot
I absolutely agree with you. Just lower the quality of objects instead of making them dissappear!
See thats the problem
Gaijin has no factual incentive on making the life of low-end users harder in ground (or any mode really).
As long as the game is F2P, it’s within Gaijin’s top objectives to make War Thunder as accessible as possible, so people can get in the ecosystem and eventually feel compelled enough to buy either premium time or vehicles. You can always choose to lower your settings in order to compete, it happens in every semi-competitive to sweaty videogame, it’s not like War Thunder is an exception by resorting to said compromise.
