Is USA at 5.7 bad, or is it just me?

I’m having a tough time with 5.7 USA. I do alright with the jumbos (I have the Cobra King), but I struggle with the Sherman 76s (M4A3/A2 76 W). It just seems like Germany outclasses me in most ways.

Current Lineup:
M4A3 76 W
M4A2 76W
M4A3E2 (Cobra King)
M4A3E2 (TT)
P-47 D-28

I’m coming from USA 4.0, a fantastic lineup, but this one seems less good. The guns seem to suffer (in particular, I expected more from the 76mm cannon)

Should I continue to play and spade this lineup, or is it not worth it?

The Sherman 76s are pretty great tbh. You have superior gun handling and mobility, so use them. What exactly are you struggling against when playing versus germany?

Both Shermans, 75 mm Jumbo, M36/M36B2 - are incredibly good tanks, they oneshot almost everyone from the side or weakspots at front. In addition best CAS on these BR’s: F4U-4B, AD-2 or AM-1.
You will have a bit hard time at ranks IV and V, but thats managable.

The new M6 with 90mm is enough to deal with everything enemy has.

It’s Panthers mostly. IIRC, their frontal weakspot is the mantlet, but I struggle to pen it, even with the 76mm

I don’t have it researched, should I? My current lineup is:

M4A2 76 W
M4A3 76 W
M4A3E2 (Cobra King)
M4A3E2 (TT)
P-47 D-28

You can check my profile in game and see how it does.

I mean, yeah, it is. You shouldn’t really be struggling to pen it unless you’re engaging in sniper duels with them (lmao). I second the M6. Thing is a monster. You can also go for the T1s. The 90mm one in particular is very capable of clubbing panthers.

Make sure you shoot it in the center (inline with the little black dots for optics and coax), not slightly high or above otherwise it becomes invulnerable. Shell drop can screw with you there easily. Also server desync making you actually aim lower than your gunsights indicate if you’re high ping or pl.

Is the M6 (90mm) better than the Jumbo (75)?

Depends on how confident you are at the game. The 90mm T1 has much worse armor, and will be penned by panthers, but you will have a much easier time penning them in return.

I wouldn’t bother with the 90mm vehicles except for the M36 B2 which gets HEATFS which will give you options when you are forced to fight Germany head-on. The rest are good secondary vehicles, but they aren’t much of an improvement and lose the stabilizer and fire rate of the 76mm gun.

I am not a huge fan of the jumbos either. They are only good when you violate the cardinal rule of War Thunder: Don’t be seen, shoot first, don’t be hit. They depend on the ability to flank your targets and you are really easy to one-tap if your opponent knows where to aim, plus the 75mm gun cannot do much to targets frontally (it struggles to even knock out barrels now). A Panther that isn’t brain-dead will eat you alive.

Also you need to improve your CAS. I prefer the P-47M, AM-1, and F4U-4B.

I will say that this line-up is a lot more dependent on your crew skills than a lot of them. If you don’t have aced crews the 76mm won’t put in the work that you need it to to make the line-up worth it. German vehicles are a lot more forgiving…

Lmao

Where M36B2 (HEAT-FS to deal with 6.7 Germany frontally)?

Where T1E1 90?

From playing 5.7 in other nations uptiers are basically a guarantee every game, so having the ability to punch up is critical imo, something that the Jumbos struggle with.

It’s a solid lineup and fair well balanced for the br. They aren’t tigers and panthers in armour but they have a good gun for 5.7, sstabilizer so you get the first shot most times, good depression too so combined they are good for using reverse slopes and hull down. It’s this br you have to learn how to be more strategic and pick your fights and locations. You’ll do well when you get it right.

Ahhhhhh no…

With the Jumbo’s, I like them against castmates because, with the .50 cal, it’s easy to track them and flank them.

I understand I’m not fantastic at War Thunder, but it seems like Germany has a massive advantage at this BR, mostly due to the Panthers. Even the mantlet isn’t always reliable with the 76mm

It’s a little bit of a change of pace for me from 4.0 America, with jack-of-all-trades 75mm Shermans and their reliable frontal armor. But I appreciate the high versatility of this battle rating for America.

The 76mm Shermans seem like tanks that reward player skill due to their lack of armor, fantastic gun handling, and average mobility

Yeah, but practically every US vehicle at 5.7 has a .50 cal. I play a lot of 5.7 and casemates are generally not a huge concern because most people do not play them because there are just better options like the Panther. It is better just to avoid frontal engagements with things like the Jagpanther and flank around them, or focus on other targets and come back with bombs.
