i don’t care much for the missing pen it should have, i just want the HE part to work, i shot a Tiger 2 on the mantlet the other day and it did nothing, a 155mm HE would have overpressured the roof
its shameful considering it should have around the same performance as the American 100lb bomb, Russian 50kg, or Japanese 60kg in terms of Overpressure
that has happened to me so many times and it drives me up the wall
any more Overpressure pen wouldn’t achieve that much improvement, with 64mm you can overpressure the maus, providing HESH has fully functioning overpressure it should be fine.
of course it should probabally have more pen, but it won’t see too much improvement in performance, besides a few vehicles where the increase in pen will make aiming less of an issue
for me the fv4005 should at least penetrate 114mm of overpressure because I think that irl we do not realize that in one hit of this shell any tank will be annihilated. but already go add a overpresure of A hesh shell
BTW…used FV4005 recently and got several hits without a kill…on stuff like tigers and panthers (damage but no kill). So i guess sometimes it does not work as well as i would like also…
On other occasions it would kill tougher targets…not sure on why…shot placement perhaps…
Shot placement is very important to counteract the badly modelled HESH jank however its still a flip of the coin whether you get yellow gunner or atomised when hit by hesh
they shot a 183mm round at a tiger 2 p turret and it caved in the turret, the 183mm hesh in game is modelled incorrectly. It should pretty much without fail kill everything you hit centre mass on.
as a sidenote, I’m pretty sure the in game he filler is lower than it should be, as the projectile itself weighs like 70kg so there is no way it only has like 20kg of tnt equivelant inside of it.
i found a lot of success sitting back and sniping with it, the long reload and low armour prevent you from being aggressive, but at range the armour is good enough and because the rounds don’t lose any effectiveness at distance, it becomes quite effective.
When I do that, I get strafed by CAP/CAS like 199 out of 200 games. The best way to play this thing will be like what the guy above mentioned, you put it in the hangar and never play it again else you gotta have mostly bad times with it.
yh, cas is a problem for it but that isn’t really the vehicles fault that’s more of a problem with the gamemode. The fv4005 is really fun imo, and sometimes pretty effective.
Spoiler
And also, being so negative about it doesn’t really help.
Perhaps a bit exaggeration, no?
In AB the strafing dropped A LOT since they removed target IDs for fighters…
AGAIN…FV4005 is like dozens other TDs in game…good gun, low armor…and in this case also a slow reload. Not my favorite tank…but can be played in the lineup and BR is reasonable.
Dont know if HESH should be better…
The projectile is 72.5kg here but is stated as 65 on the tank museum website(weird), not found any sources listing the he filler, but assuming it falls in line with other hesh rounds, which I know is a bit of a stretch, it should have more filler.
It’s in game performance is very inconsistent considering the drawbacks the fv4005 has.
But I still enjoy using it for the sheer joy of almost always one tapping whatever you shoot.
