Yeah i have 9.3 japan as well as the leopard 1a5no2 in the swedish tree. Also how is the T114? Ive heard a lot about it.

So first question, because I see you are on Xbox, are you looking at the XM1 (Chrysler) | War Thunder Wiki (semi Xbox exclusive) or the XM1 (GM) | War Thunder Wiki ?
I have the XM1 (GM) | War Thunder Wiki, as I do not play on Xbox. So, the following info is from my experiences with the XM1 (GM). Even though the two are quite similar, there are some differences. One of the main ones I can see/know about is top speed. The XM1 (GM) is slightly faster than the XM1 (Chrysler). Also, the XM1 (Chrysler) has better armor (the AI response below does not get these numbers correct compared to Xray view in game. But the (Chrysler) still has more armor.)
Downsides:
- “Weak” dart. Does have HEAT-FS and medium sized smoke shells. Also has HESH round, but those are still pretty much useless, unless they are the huge sized HESH (eg. T58)
- Mediocre/OK reload speed. Fastest reload with max level and Ace Trained crew = 6.7 seconds
Upsides:
- Fast, forward and reverse. It’s acceleration is quite good, especially for its BR. One of the quickest MBT’s in the game
- Blowout panel for its ammo
- Hydro Pneumatic suspension. Can get VERY low to the ground (Chrysler variant does not have adjustable suspension)
- Still has Gen 1 thermals for gunner sight. Not extremely useful, but might be mildly useful if you play Ground Realistic
- Commander controlled 12.7mm (50 cal) machine gun
- -10 degrees gun depression

Absolutely one of the best “rat” tanks in the game 😂 It’s gun depression used to be much worse, but it is now -10 degrees, making it SO much easier to play. It does “only” have 3 shells in its first stage, so you have to wait a while for those to reload. Best to try and top up on a capture point. However, the recoilless rounds are very good, and it does not cause me any real issues.
I LOVE The T114. But I do love nearly all light tanks, so that plays into too. But for its BR, one of the best light tanks in the game imo.
If you are deciding between the XM1 and the T114, I would strongly recommend the T114. However, if you are looking to grind out most or all of the US ground tree, then the XM1 will get you further since it is Rank 6 vs Rank 5 for the T114.
If you really like light tanks, there is the M1128 Wolfpack to consider (unless it has been removed from the game? I cannot remember). It is not great, but I used it to ground out nearly the entire US ground tree. Gen 3 thermals for both gunner and commander (extremely useful for scouting in GRB. You can use rangefinder, scout, and fire from commander sight). It also now has hydro pneumatic suspension, up/down and tilt forward/back. Giving you more gun depression if you tilt it forwards. Also crewless turret, so you can peak over hills and not “always” die to a shot to your turret.

Yeah im looking at the GM version because the chrysler is a pack premium. I’d like some decent armor but i can do ok with none. I really appreciate the in depth response, helps a lot :)

Even though it does have “thin” armor, and you should play it more like a light tank, it does not cause me too many issues. It does have a pretty good zoom, so you can and should stay a bit back and snipe. Its reverse speed + acceleration is good, so you should retreat behind cover while reloading, only takes a moment.
And it has very good/excellent gun stabilization, no issue to get back on target. If you have not done so already, definitely try it in a test drive 👍
It looks cool but i feel like it would be really hard to use outside of urban maps since it uses a recoilless rifle. Idk about the wolfpack. Have you tried the t54e1 or e2?
Yea i might buy it. Ive tried the squadron abrams its really nice.
Ooooo, no I actually prefer to use it long range! I play Arcade, so it is no issue to scout a target, move back to cover, and lob shells over hills.
If you play Realistic however, that does change how effective you can use it long range.
I very rarely play MBT’s (or heavies, or SPG’s lol), and I do not have either of those, so would need to get someone else’s opinion on those.

I think you already got your answer, but I’m also here to vouch for the XM-1 GM. Very good vehicle with a great lineup to go with it, even at its future br of 9.7. And 9.7 is looking to be a decent br, basically the new 9.3. So yeah its a good pickup, I’ll be getting it myself too lol.
I’ll also vouch for the T114, one of the most fun vehicles in the game imo. You won’t regret buying it.

Yeah, then the XM1 might be your better bet. Laser rangefinder, no issues long range. And its speed is very good for city maps. A note there: I really like putting the suspension all the way down for city maps, not normal for enemies to have to shoot so low, and I find the gun stays more stable because your suspension isn’t bouncing as much (or at all lol, I think it might actually stop any suspension bounce.) ABSOLUTELY put it back to center for anything but flat and level. You can flip hitting a bump at high speed.
If you need any help with the suspension keybinds, let me know. You need UP, DOWN, and “Centre suspension”.

Have you played 11.7 BR or higher ground? If not, I would very very strongly say NO. Work your way up, don’t skip that high. It is not good for your skill, nor very fun. It is a different world in every way imaginable. Especially in GRB with all the Close Air support.

It was onsale in the summer sale so I wouldn’t bet on it going on sale. However for whenever it does go on sale, the clickbait is definitely better than the xm1 imo, both for grinding and BR for BR. Its a pure workhorse of a grinder, has literally one of the best lineups in the entire game, and can easily get you thru the entire tree since its rank 8 (unlike the xm1 since its at rank 6). You literally cannot go wrong with it, every single abrams in the game is cracked and the M1A1s are honestly very undertiered, even with the recent br changes
