Is the VEAK 40 Unplayable since the HE-VT removal? (Poll)

I’m curious if anyone here still uses the VEAK 40 after it lost its HE-VT shells.

Before that change it felt like a pretty capable SPAA, but since the proxy rounds were removed while the original innacurate ammunition it had aswell stayed, it seems much- much harder to use against jets and helicopters. The guns feel difficult to lead and I rarely see the vehicle in matches anymore unless i bring it with me, And then i have a pretty horrid experience dealing with any airborne targets.

Do Anybody still bring the VEAK 40 in their lineup at all?

  • Is it still worth using? Even with a worse ammunition?
  • What do you think about the vehicle now?

Or has it basically been replaced by other SPAAs in the Tech-Tree?

Never used after ammo removed worst AA in game !
it’s not easy to use at all with limited amount of ammo
i don’t understand the point of having 95mm of pen it’s AA not a light tank the HE-VT was only reason to use it.

Can we bear in mind before all useful-ness disscussions that most cold war SPAAs are overpowered to an extent that no one’s flying fixed wings while Helis aren’t seen that often in those BRs

The AP shot is not a problem though, we’re talking about the incorrect HE shells that have too low of a velocity to be useful

true
what i mean is why can’t have both AP and HE-VT i don’t mind br increase personally.

I believe the HE-VT was removed for historical reasons, not anything to do with balance. The reason the VEAK is still in this sorry state is really due to neglect

It is definitely the worst AA (for AA purposes) I’ve played, although I’ve only played 2 nations

It’s effectively a straight downgrade to the ZSU-37-2 at the same BR. You get slower shells and a reduced fire rate, in exchange for a better RADAR.

I’ve long been a proponent of it getting it’s HE-VT back. It was entirely capable of firing them, and had it come into service it certainly would have recieved them. It served far more of a role both in the Swedish tech tree and in the meta as a Sgt York analogue, than it does as another forgettable early cold war SPAA.

The VEAK 40 uses the Lvakan m/48 (Bofors L/70), which is chambered for 40×365 mm R ammunition. However, the game gives it older 40×311 mm R (L/60) ammunition, which was already being phased out by the early 1960s when the VEAK 40 was tested.

The Lvakan m/48 requires ~3200 kg/cm² working pressure, while the older ammunition only produces ~2900–3100 kg/cm², meaning it cannot deliver the gun’s intended performance.

This hopefully is enough to trash the current unhistorical ammunition, and replace it with:

Historical sources (SPHF, Bofors VEAK 40, 2011) confirm the VEAK 40 used Slsgr (HEI-T), Slpprj (AP-T) with ~1000–1005 m/s velocity

In 1953, the Swedish Bofors L/70 was adopted as the standard NATO anti-aircraft gun and the Italian company Breda got a production license leading

As such, The ammunition performance of the Slsgr (HEI-T) and Slpprj (AP-T) should match the “HE-I-T-M2” (HEI-T) “IM219”(AP-T)

It is playable, but not great. The radar is almost useless (at least I can’t get it to help me).

Guess it depends on the mode - your topic and post do not specify.
I use it mostly in Arcade, so it’s easier to shoot down CAS there.
