For some reason, I have to stay in a continuous notch on a missile that already went for my chaff, even though my RWR keeps saying it’s tracking me. Not only that, but when I go into a notch for a missile that is launched closer, the missile can either have the same problem (thing above) or appear on different sides of my RWR, and it’s a frantic change of direction too! (If replay is needed, just ask me)
I do not know, but adding my likes and a comment to bring more attention to your thread. Hope you figure out what’s going on, and if there is an issue that it gets fixed ASAP 👍
to my understanding, even if a missile goes for your chaff, your rwr will still be receiving radiation from the missile as you are still within the gimbal limits and close enough to what the missile is targeting for radiation to spillover.
its like how if you’re in a group of friendlies and one missile is fired at one of you, all of you will receive rwr warnings.
so no, your rwr isnt broken, it just isnt 100% accurate regarding what missiles are targeting you, and not things close to you (chaff, allies, or other missiles).
Are you rolling your aircraft? the horizontal orientation of the plane greatly influences the RWR’s indications. An RWR will still receive warnings as long as the tracking-radar (whether from the Missile, or a CW guiding Radar) is still in the vicinity (as Farawayseal explained alr).
no i dont roll my aircraft that much, beside to climb and dive in that notch but when im flying straight it can happen
That is your RWR seeing the sidelobes from the missile’s radar. It can happen with planes firing a fox 1 too. The F-14s radar is especially noisy in that reguard, you can often get a launch warning from a friendly F-14 that you are behind if you are close enough.
The direction your RWR says depends on how your plane is oriented. If you are upside down, the RWR will tell you the opposite direction. If it is coming at an angle to the front, you can see the rwr direction move around if you roll your plane.
Well, it might be something about the altitude or exact position of the missile,
the rwr needs to simplify a 360°•60° view to a 360° plane afterall
When I’m flying straight or notching practically going straight (for example, the missile is on left side), the missile can appear on my left side (like directly to my left) , then somehow on the back left behind me, and i need to reorient my aircraft into that position. It doesn’t happen all the time, but it can happen a lot
That is what happens when you sucessfully notch. When the missile bites off on your chaff, it no longer is going for you, so the RWR contact will start sliding backwards as it is going towards the chaff. The same thing will happen if you run a missile out of energy. I wouldn’t recommend recommiting immediately tho, if the missile is still getting datalinked, there’s a chance it could relock you.
also i have like 1 or 2 more questions. I was just playing a match and number one, how would i notch a mica 4km away from me (angle gate didnt work) and second is the Aim9m bugged? cuz in the same match against the Rafaele, my aim9 (shouldve fired 120d) was tracking the rafaele, and his mica was out of view for the aim9’s seeker (i had radar lock on mica too) and all of a sudden, the missile just flies straight, not even trying to keep lock, and when I looked at replay, the guy didnt even flare!
Mica has a smaller tolerance. going slower, and reacting immediately helps for one. With a fast connection (<100ms ping) a 2 close consecutive releases of chaff, followed by a direction change help a lot too. If that doesn’t work, don’t panic. 9M’s flare discrimination doesn’t work well against missiles, especially if the targeted airplane is in a colder aspect (e.g. frontal view)
i fired at the Rafael, not the Mica, and it didnt track the rafaele, it was acting like a fox 1 missile
From 4km though, mica has a very high kill-chance. Pre-chaffing, and going preemtively defensive, putting yourself in a position, where the missile will have to expend a lot of energy to align with you, could’ve helped you survive. If you’re, like, low to the ground, just dive in a crank, notch, or even cold (going away from the enemy) direction. None of these will let you maintain the offense sadly
wdym? can you explain, bc i don’t really understand the situation you’re describing fully
You can also share a link to/from the replay site 🙂
Check the box next to “Replays including my participation”, click “Search”, find the replay you would like to share, click on the replay, click the button labeled “Copy the replay link” at the bottom left, paste here 👍
https://warthunder.com/en/tournament/replay
Anyone can then click on “Start replay” and it will open in the game.
the replay hadnt shown up yet, it still is like 20 missions behind
Ahhhhh, ok SO there is a work around, takes a few steps. You have to convert the in game session ID into decimal (the session ID shown on the in game replay section), and amend that to a direct replay URL link. Probably not needed here, but if you did want to try that route just lmk and I can help 👍
The rafale in that was in a defensive position, until you were too close.
What likely happened to 9M was that either the seeker suspension didn’t detect the missile as a flare (in that scenario, it’ll behave basically like a 9L), or in the opposite: it drifted because the launch was detected as a flare. In front aspect, jets are also colder, so it’s even easier to dodge than a front aspect Fox-2 already is.
