Is the Leopard 2A4 less good than expected?

As I have played the leo 2A4 (in a lineup with Ozelot, Leo 2k, Bo 105 and Boxer) for some time now, having aquired the 1st sabot shell after grinding with the Heat shell, I feel like I am the butt of someones joke or genuenly confused at what I witness.

What every source I looked at promised me to be a well armored and protected tank seems to be the opposite of true.

Be it Click bait, hstvl, Abrams, Wolfpack, T80, object 292, Leclerc, Ariete, Merkava, Al khalit or ZTZ all of these seem to effectively with no effort one shot me from any position through front hull and even through the turret paradoxically which I though would be the most protected part of the tank given Nato doctrine of protected turrets.

While I on the contrary have yet to pen any of these mentioned enemies through their front plates or turrets and it genuenly seems to be impossible to kill them if i dont shoot specific weakspots which they do not need to do on me.

Additionally what am i supposed to do against the vast types of AGM that seem to always find me no matter where i stand or spawn.

Do I do something wrong? (If yes please help me) or is it because I play on console that puts me in a disadvantage against these things I now face at 10.7.

people tend to lie.

some of these sit at higher BR than Leo2A4, of course they dont have issue with going through its armor. on top of that, 292 has the highest pen sabot in the game. of course that thing will slice through the armor.

weakspot hunting is the name of the game. and it will continue to being a case. not even the L/55 gun with DM53 can lolpen BVM/90M UFP.

issue with CAS isnt unique to the Leo2A4. M1 or Chally 1s or even TURMS/80UD face the exact same issue. your best bet to deal with them is to have proper AA in your lineup and hop in when its appropriate. Id actually suggest to have two AAs in your lineup, OSA for high alt targets and Gepard 1A2/Strela as SHORAD. germany sadly doesnt have any “one AA that covers it all” option like soviet Tunguska or US ADATS.

anyway, as for playing Leo2A4:

Try not to rely on your armor. Like, at all. Flank, fight hulldown, hide your hull behind debris and such and try not to tank shots. If youre stuck on urban map against something like 80UD, pray you get first shot off.

Honestly, where you’re really starting to get into top tier now, the name of the game overall is “pretend you have 0 armor all the time and you could die at any second”; and, that’s pretty applicable to every tank across all nations with a few exceptions, namely the later STRV 122’s, the 2a7, t80bvm, t90m(maybe). When I play i’m more shocked that something bounced than I am that I died.

It takes some time getting used to but sorta like Bees is saying, you’re really in the “I need to know different weak points and break barrels/breaches” section of the game. Everything is pinpoint accurate, everyone can see you and fire from across the map, reloads across the board are quick most being 6 seconds or less, a shot can practically do nothing or immediately destroy the tank. This is now “destroy it immediately or make it non-functional” territory or you’re gonna have a bad time.

Oh in case you’ve never seen it mentioned before, really check what your ready rack capacity is and where your ammo stowage is; the Leopard 2’s all have ammo in the hull directly beside the driver in the Lower Front Plate. Try to just run what you have ready rack capacity for +1 in the chamber.

Replace 2a4 with 2a7

Don’t get bummed up.

Leo2A4 is great. You just need to play it more and get more experience. You will soon find out that it’s great. It’s literally the best 10.7 tank

WT isnt real life. We have mouse aim and average engagement distance is around 400m instead of like 1.5km or whatever. We also control all aspects of the tank and aren’t stuck with clastrophobic views rather a 3rd person over the shoulder and above view.

So we have better aim, way better situational awareness, and no disjointed control over the vehicle.

The result is above like 9.3 BR everyone is easily able to kill everyone via weakspots and the game plays more like a realistic first person shooter than a tank slugfest. Mobility, hard cover, gun handling/reaction time will be your best friend not armor.

It’s a 292, did you expect to survive the Russian Boomstick?

The USSR needs more experimental tanks from the 1990s, many of which have a 152mm gun.

Would love 72b more. Worse shot, worse reload without expert, worse armour, worse afterpen protection, useless depression, useless turret traverse, only mobility advantages which is limited by maps and more gun elevation which is not needed in cities.

The Leopard 2A4’s are exceptional 10.7’s

We need some more tds and light tanks at 10.0+ and mbts that have actual reverse gears and gun depression.

The 10.7 matchmaker is GARBAGE. Every game is 11.3 at the least, downtiers are a myth.

Everything aside, the 2A4 has insane mobility, decent firepower, and very good reaction times. Use the mobility, don’t expect to tank shots left and right, as it is really not capable of doing that (especially against 11.0+ rounds). If you do want to use armor, the turret is ok, being capable of tanking shells all the way up to 3BM42. DM33 120, M829A1, etc. will punch right through.

Seriously, does anyone have a problem playing 2a4?

The initial batches of Leopard 2 utilized ‘B Technologie’ composite armour packages.

In short: These were only intended to resist 105mm DM23 and the MILAN ATGM, if we placed the Leopard 2A4 at a Battle Rating where it would face those types of threats it’d be around 8.7 - 9.0, obviously that wouldn’t be fair to the other vehicles sitting at those BR’s.

Top-tier is about mobility and killing/disabling your opponent first, that means that you need to have excellent map knowledge and positioning as well as knowing where to aim. Armour doesn’t play a major role in top-tier and you should never rely on it, regardless of what vehicle you’re playing.

I always never rely on my armor whenever im playing mbts, its best to go flanking and sniping. No matter how tanky your tank is, being shot at is never a good thing.

For Abrams aim for the turret ring, T-series tank just aim for the lower front plate or if ur confident then go for the driver hatch, same for Al khalit and ZTZ, the other tank mentioned are pretty lightly armored so u should be able to kill them easily, if all else fail just aim for the gun mantle which should disable their breach or horizontal drive.

If its helicopter AGM research the LWS and whenever u see that pop up just smoke and run away, only applied for laser guided AGM tho, if its the other type then uh good luck?

And where is the insane mobility if like anything seems to be faster in reaction time and speed.

I mentioned the boxer I have which has my highest top speed in the linup and it still gets outrun by t80s till a certain point, like 70kmh plus where you slowly start to catch up to its massive headstart

2 AAs? Where do i get the space for that , 5 crew slts, as i do want to still play tanks and my planes/helicopter

Additionally i do not understand how the fire and forget missiles on the osa or even roland work so i still stick to the Ozelot as mentioned since those missiles are to my understanding.

You got some premium variant of roland or osa that gets FnF missiles?

Because the TT variant are essentially SACLOS.

Doesnt have range against most FnF AGMs nor helis, on top of that Gepard 1A2 is literally better due to having backup guns (and with ammo box missiles arent an issue).
