Is spotting targets using the scout drone a inteded feature or bug?

Just want to make sure if its safe to do or if its an bug.

When you use drones if you mark the enemy you can then scout them regardless if you’re really far away from them or if any object is in front of you.

Is this a bug or feature?

I would hazard a guess that that is an unintended interaction between scout drone forcing tanks your vehicle can’t see/hear to be rendered, and the scouting system that relies on LoS and vehicle rendering to function.

As far as I know, when a vehicle isn’t rendered for your client, you cannot scout it. But your scout drone will force the enemy vehicle to be rendered, and perhaps the game also checks LoS from both your tank and the drone, thus allowing you to scout things that you wouldn’t normally be able to.

For now though, I wouldn’t worry about being punished for using this interaction. It’s not as if this is a malicious or highly profitable thing to do. It’s not like you’re crashing servers or making tons of RP/SL from this. Stuff that crashes servers or makes super high SL/RP usually are the ban-worthy stuff.

Any chance we could get confirmation if this is a intended feature? Could we get in trouble for this?

This is still a thing today. I highly doubt anyone would be banned for this. If anything, this should be a standard feature to make scout drones actually useful, especially if you want to relay information for your team and actually get a reward for it. This way people would also care more about drones and taking them down.

If it were bannable then they wouldn’t let their signed and NDA’d content creators talk about it, do it themselves and say you should do it; which many of them do.

you shouldn’t get in trouble for using a feature that, while admittedly probably intended, stems from Gaijin (not a hacker client or anything). They have yet to fix it, and as far as I can tell it’s been around for a while.

What’s difficult about removing this feature is discerning between what’s scout-able and what’s not. Obviously you shouldn’t have to have the target in LoS to mark and alert teammates it is there, but its a gray area in regards to what should differentiate between a successful and unsuccessful scout ping.

That’s not how an NDA works…
