Is it worth bringing the LITENING III targeting pod for German Typhoon?

Do I need to bring it for A2G weapons derived from it in the modifications tab? Or can I just use the built-in targeting pod (I think?) for them? Are there any differences between the two? (e.g. thermal quality, range, etc.)

if you want to bring laser guided weapons you need the targeting pod. anything thats IR guided like SPICE and HOSBO you dont.

that isnt a targeting pod. that is the “PIRATE” IRST system. it kinda doesnt really do anything in WT as gaijin thinks its actual capabilities such as missile slaving is a marketing lie but it can be used to get a better look at the battlefield for firing IR A2G missiles

Ill just add that since TPoD on EFT doesnt block any weapon pylon and even in case of HOSBOs and SPICEs higher zoom allows for faster target recognition, theres no downside to taking it as far as i know

The parasite drag and extra weight is also a non issue if you’re doing CAS runs.

I see, thanks for the answer

The PIRATE FLIR is good enough if operating from longer ranges, but its severly limited in look down ability due to its upper mounted position and limited FoR.

In terms of quality and Magnification

Litening III 3.09x - 95.66x/ Gen 3
PIRATE FLIR 3.09x - 95.66x / Gen 2

Based upon the datamine sheet

So it depends on what weapon you are planning to deploy, and how. (If I could run them without the Litening III, Id run PW4s more often in ARB and deploy them using the PIRATE FLIR, especially with the aiming point system meaning I can set a load of target points further away)
