Is heli rushing good or bad?

Hey I’m a player who is relatively new to helicopters and as an American main I have the ah 1g and two Huey’s. The ah 1g it has no atgms so you need to rush with rockets and while the Huey’s do get atgms I struggle so much to get kills with them that I can’t get to the atgm mods without playing heli p v e, in which case I get shot from two km away by a Gerard or hell and m113 with a aimbot .50 pilot snipes me That’s the background but my question is does heli rushing without ballistic computers just suck or do I just suck, and if I do how do I get better

Probably both, remember that while moving your rockets will keep the same velocity as your helicopter, so for a start try to only be shooting your rockets while flying in straight ish lines and practice in test drive and on bots in custom battles

GRB RP gains are absolutely awful. Helicopters are basically whale terrority and I would never reccomend grinding them. They exist to force people to spend GE on modifications, or buy premium versions.

Even with a positive KD ratio, heli rushing is going to take you an insane amount of games to unlock most modifications.

Heli rush is just a quick death with hopes of a kill, unless your in the KA-50. You can click the box on ground rb to research the heli tree to go faster, but the grind to unlock the mods for the helis is long and frustrating. I ended up spending GE to unlock some just because i hated the grind so much. I have the American tree done, and working on RU and Germany and well i’m never doing it again for any other branch.
I dont even have any mods done for the Germany helis or most of the RU hellis because of the frustration

you can squad vehicle the YAh-64 and give it a shot before getting too deep into the research tree of the helis

AH-1G faces insanely undertiered SPAA (namely ZSU-23 and Gepard) which screws it over a ton.

you can try making your odds better by not rushing in straight from the helipad but taking a detour and coming in from unexpectable angle when people are already engaged in battle and not watching the sky.
flying low and fast, dont turn around 180 degrees to shoot again the tank you missed but fly away and do another run from another angle, not where you just left.

flying high is easier to see enemy but they also see you alot easier, but unguided rockets without CCIP is a pain in the butt to hit anything past 1,5km

Id say use tanks to grind to the heli you want. Heli rushing is something you and your friends agree to do bc its stupid but you might overwhelm the early game enemy.

Thos are not undertierd

yeah unfortunately without CCIP it’s almost always suicide. With CCIP and a bit of practice you can supress a tank from 3km (with S-8 at least), if it’s a light vehicle that’s at least a crit

Yes they are.

I am a player that enjoys heli rushing more than any other type of gameplay War Thunder has to offer. With that said it definitely IS NOT for everyone. If you care about your KD don’t do it because you will see yourself having a very, very negative KD while you are learning how to do it. I never cared about personal stats as I have been playing games long enough to know they don’t accurately represent a players skill at all. After months and months of learning I am just now able to consistently get 1-3 kills every attempt but I just wanted to express how hard it is to do successfully. The best heli imo to pull it off in the US tree would be the AH-6M and AH-1F. The approach itself is what dictates how well you will do 100% of the time. Stay low and stay moving and always utilize any hard cover you can to set yourself up for kills. Here is a quick clip of the AH-1G

Quick example of the “approach” I spoke of here.

I have the same problem: trying to hit enemy tanks with AH-1G rockets in staright line, and I always get detsroyed soon after or way before (being spotted by ZSU or other 2 kms away).

My adive: fly really low, approach , and at the last moment rise and shoot several rockets, then fly away as low as possible.
Use a new angle of approach and repeat this tactic. I managed to make 2 kills in one game once (but onlyu once, most of the time no kill or only hits and critical hits).
Target soft ground targets first to train, then MBT’s later on.

For the team? Bad, for you? Depends on if you have premium time.

Better to just use ground vehicles to research the helis tbh. Or use PvE.

The Helicopter grind is a universally miserable experience. It’s time consuming, unfun, and for a country like the US who has some of the worst top tier helicopters in the game, legitimately not worth it.

With that said, If you’re adamant about progressing in Helicopters, I would strongly recommend buying a premium. Not necessarily because the rewards are much better (although that’s a huge factor), but mostly because the gameplay is infinitely less awful than the starter Heli’s.

As others have said, you can click the check box to grind Helicopters with tank RP gain, but that’s not very helpful to someone who just wants to play Heli. So for pure Heli gameplay, I’d massively recommend sticking to PVE.

As you’ve already discovered, the Gepards shred starter Heli’s, but Premium Heli’s (with AGM’s) can shred them. If you’re wanting to do it with the starters, your best bet is finding someone willing to destroy the AA for you so you can mop up the easier stuff. (If I’m ever online at the same time I’d be happy to do that for you). Dumping dumb fire rockets into the bases that spawn is also more viable since the Roland’s defending them was removed, but they’ve also added a limit to how many bases re-spawn which sucks.

As for whether rocket rushing is effective, I’d say no. RP is ‘time gated’ so to speak. You can only earn a certain amount in a certain time period, and given this tactic is pretty much guaranteed to be an early demise, it’s not a practical way to progress.

No they not its rly not hard to dodge them
