If you enjoy light tanks, it would be definitely worth it for you.
Try to get these first: Breda 501, Fiat 6614, R3 T106FA and then VBC, Freccia and Centauro (you can test drive premium ones).
At your current rank try 90/53 M41, it’s quite fun vehicle with a very powerful cannon.

That’s the main problem with Ariete, its reputation, armor is awful, but the vehicle overall isn’t that bad especially the Pre-serie one.

Although this might be biased (Italians can’t be unbiased smh) I would say that the Italian TT is worth it and is amongst those trees that are the most “future proof” trees in the game.
I’ll try to give a detailed answer when it comes to top tier and slightly lower than that for both Air and Ground as I’ve spent a good amount of time there and I’m the most expert in those departments of the TT. However, I did play lower tier Italy (until 6 to 7.0, both in GRB and in ARB) and I must say that I did enjoy those vehicles, even though I might not have the most experience in them (hence they might not be the hardest vehicles to play).
I’ll start off with GRB:
Going off by colour:

Green: The vehicles I absolutely recommend giving them a go, the best in the TT and the most fun to play. Not all of them are the best in class, one of them being the OTOMATIC. But played in the right way, the OTO is basically a 70SP light tank that guaranteed me a couple of nukes because of how much you can get with such a small amount of SP. It’s truly a gem if you’re able to look further than the usual Italy AA meme, the APFSDS with the new crate (therefore you can load them up after firing all 12) are a very niche but fun gameplay to try. Disclaimer though, you must be precise with your shots.
Personally the green vehicles are the ones that I’ve enjoyed the most. -
Yellow: This is where my bias might come in play, so take it with a grain of salt. I find these vehicles to either be lackluster or hard to play/require a certain playstyle. One of the choices that might seem controversial is the Arietes in yellow instead of red. Imo the Arietes are playable, I do have 2 K/D with all of them and I did have my fun. The best one is by far the P since it’s low in BR and still has a decent armor scheme for its BR, plus a very good shot. The AMV is prolly the other best Ariete, considering that it has the best mobility out of all of the 11.7 and upwards Arietes. I value the mobility a lot, and ofc you’re a glass cannon with a very good shot. Never get shot if you can, best case scenario the turret spall liners will give you ONE chance to stay alive, happened quite often.

Orange: Controversial vehicle, always heard people hate on it but I’ve tried it and it’s just VERY hard to get right, imo it can work but it’s FAR from ideal.

Red: Not worth it. Don’t play the SIDAMs.
Future GRB vehicles:
This is where Italy can still shine, there are a lot of variants of different vehicles that could come and make the TT even better (this doesn’t consider the subtt vehicles):

Green: Basically every plane in green is MORE than playable, had fun in all of them and some are definitely worth grinding an entire TT for (EFT, duh). The ADV might be controversial as it’s a Tornado, but the SuperTEMPS actually slam people, I’ve had a decent amount of fun it it. Another controversial one might be the MiG-29… The R-27ERs make that plane worth it imo, strongest missile at its BR and if used properly, that’s two kills.

Yellow: Either planes that I don’t like playing or that require a specific playstyle (F-104 boom and zoom) to be played.

Gray: I didn’t play that fella, sowwy.
Future additions in air are pretty much the EFT Trance 4+ with the ECRS mk.2 and much more stuff added to it, the M-346 and many other aircraft, but there are too many to create a list so I’ll just suggest giving the Italian suggestions a good read. We are guaranteed to have 2 different 5th gens as well.

Moral of the story, IMO it’s worth it. (It’s also not that long of a tech tree, meaning you can get to top tier air in a week with premium time and a prem vehicle, but I suggest playing the props)

I go to either to my 3.7-4.0 or to my 4.7-5.0 line up If I wan’t to have fun in Italy. Sometimes 6.0.
And special shoutout to these as I’ve found the M44 SO much fun, bonking people with it is satisfying to say the least (I would expect the M55 to end up being just a more powerful M44, although I haven’t yet tried it):

Tried in sim battles. when at the top of the tier they’re truly amazing, especially in short range engagements.

Mig-23 in grey? It’s totally fine you never flew it, it doesn’t worth the effort imho
about ground, i saw you put the VCC-80/60 on orange. That’s a bit controversial vehicle, i saw players doing incredible things with that one. it is also good as anti-air.

A friend of mine (far from a tryharder, much closer to a casual player) somehow brought it in toptier against T-90s and killed a few in our games together… I’m yet to understand if he’s some sort of prophet or what else happened that day.

i think that gajjin should maybe work on italy atleast about adding 1 squadron vehicle
for me Italy is good not bad and Ariete tank is not bad to but italy not for new player you need You need a lot of experience in the maps and places where each tank hits. You need to be the first to find the target and the first to shoot, but as a piece of advice, go to Germany first, you will get the best experience, or Russia.
i did germany until 6.7 but not a fan of heavy things

Id disagree with your placement of Leopard 1A5 into yellow and not green, and im interested to hear as to why OSA or Strela is bad.

Absolutely this ☝️ Italy has some unique light tanks. I REALLY like most of them. Especially the higher BR ones. The only other country that might be slightly more unique on the light tank side would be Sweden. But I highly recommend Italy for their lights.

1A5 on yellow as it needs to be aware of the very low amount of armor it has. It’s quite noticeable, and it mostly falls into the “requires a good playstyle to be good”. If you were to play it like, let’s say, a soviet tank at those same BRs it just won’t work (same can be said about the OF-40Mk.2A).
Notice this:
“Require a certain playstyle” more than others.
Don’t get me wrong, I consider it a good tank and worth the grind.
My red square was mainly for the Osa. The Strela is quite potent and an AA that I always feel like you can bring to top tier in those close range shenanigans to catch your opponents off-guard. I personally don’t like the Osa. Slow missiles, not that worth.
In general I’ve marked them red as it’s not worth to grind the TT for those, although some AA at 10.3 can help your 10.7 (doesn’t work with your 10.0 vehicles, another reason why I’m not too fond of them) line-up.

Yeah, for sure not a waste of time 🙂 You might end up liking another country “more” someday, but Italy is a very fun tree, especially their light tank ground units for me 👍
