Realistically, an engine needs oxygen to combust the fuel to create thrust, whether by pushing the hot gas to a side so a force of the opposite side is applied to the aircraft or to push a piston down to rotate a propeller. The aircraft doesn’t need to be moving to get the oxygen, otherwise stationary aircrafts on the ground wouldn’t have been able to takeoff, but in a lack of airflow, the performance of the engine will be reduced, specially if the engine has been running with the maximum amount of air it can get and suddenly the airflow stops. This mechanic however seems to be missing from War Thunder, as planes with a thrust to weight ratio of more than 1.0 seem to have little to no problem vertically floating in the air for as long as they have fuel left which is not realistic and they would experience compressor stall after a few seconds of floating and lose thrust and fall.
So when will this mechanic (hopefully alongside other mechanics like electronic warfare and jamming) be added?
Compressor stall itself is not a thing in War Thunder.
The only time compressor stall would impact things are notably older-engines, & it’d be maneuvering-caused compressor stall [TF30 & RM8 engine’d aircraft as examples].
It’s not something that would impact most if not all modern turbofans that are primarily computer controlled.
Wear & defect related engine malfunctions just won’t be implemented because you have a fresh engine every time you hit to battle.
So likely a low-priority idea since it will pretty much have no impact on modern fighters, & little impact for the older stuff.
