Is ANYONE else having a problem aim9m's?

I do not understand what my aim9m’s do half the time. My enemy doesn’t even preflare, let alone flare, and even flaring late wouldn’t matter because somehow my missile doesn’t keep a tone even with radar lock since my AIM-9 M doesn’t track!

Radar lock means nothing since it is an IR seeker

Make sure you have a good aoa, 9Ms pull well but they’re not R-73s, they can’t shoot high off bore and are practically worthless if you’re under 2km because they don’t pull at all off the rail and need time to gain speed

It can help against pre-flaring targets as it slaves the seeker to the plane and starts the IRCCM working so the missile has a much better chance to go after the target rather then the CMs, but that is pretty situational.

Yes, but the radar does not help once the missile is off the rail

Unless the enemy player sees the hard lock and thinks the missile being fired at them is a SARH and not a IR, and thus moves to notch, which then sets themselves up for an easier kills with the 9M.

You’d be surprised how often Ive seen that work.

But the actual missile itself, no it doesnt

Maybe that’s the problem:

Been there, done that far too many times. Always a bit embarrassing when you turn to notch and chaff an IR missile lol.

Have also done it to many other people as well. Especially in F2 dropping AAM3s on people from above, people see you hard lock and fire a missile at like 6km, the thought never crosses their mind that it could be an IR lol

He didn’t flare, 9m just didn’t even try lol

This ngl could either be the missile losing lock because it was a bit off-bore or the missile getting over G-ed.
