Is aim-7c useless?

AIM-7C is completely useless with no chance of hitting any target more than 200 km/h away or am I just doing something wrong?

The Aim7C can be a bit difficult to use, as it needs some time to become effective due to it only being able to turn after 2 seconds, and only achieving full turn capabilities after 4.5 seconds. So I recommend giving it a few km of free space.

The worst IR missile in the game has a dV of 511m/s…
The AIM-7C has 416.

at very high altitudes I launch at 5km, and it can usually turn for starfighters, bombers, or people not paying attention. Gotta help it a lot with the lead though.

Short answer: yes, it’s useless.

It can only be used effectively at much higher altitudes, and that engine won’t get you up there in time to use it effectively. However if the target is unaware or due to have an RWR, while also not changing corse, it should have no hard time hitting its target.

I only use aircraft with AIM-7E or higher, I will ignore other less reliable aircraft in the AIM-7 family

I tried many times to get it to work on the F3H, I just couldn’t. I found that the situation and position you need to put yourself into in order to get the missile to track and hit a target leaves you completely and utterly vulnerable, and you have to sit up there and hold that lock for far too long which results in you getting blasted. Even if you can get kills with the missile, I found it was much safer and more consistent to just not bother and take the 4 AIM-9Bs instead.

This Guy explains the Missile a bit and also successfully demonstrates it in the Video:

Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: In ASB I had a guy 3 km away from me going perfectly straight at around 700kmh (I was going 900kmh) and 2km alt, not maneuvering and the missile still somehow missed him ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I’d suggest to use 4x AIM-9B instead.
