It basically fires 6.3 shells at 7.7 with a really big reload penalty. Gun handling and gun depression are atrocious as well.
Armor is good until you realize at ~7.7 BR 90mm/105mm HEAT is a very common sight so in plenty of engagements that armor is nothing more than a deadweight.
+1, it should get a ammo buff, it’s needed it for awhile.
You’d think they would’ve done this when the Maus got its buff.
This is brilliant idea and very justified, hopefully this gets wind under wings.
All it needs is decompression of this BR range. Those shells won’t help it much especially considering that afaik IS-4 project was long over when those shells started being used. (Thus gaijin will be reluctant to add them even if it was the ultimate solution which it isn’t)
Sure it will allow it to engage some targets it otherwise can’t, but it won’t fix any of the main iasues of the tank. It will still be slow, penetrated by everything, reload ages and so on. And on top of that using those shells will not even be a buff, but rather a trade off since using them takes away one of the very few of it’s advantages being an ability to nuke any tank just by penning it anywhere.
What it needs is being exmpted from facing majority of current 8.7 vehicles and some 8.3 ones (yes it’s about you Turm 3). Only then will it have any breathing room.
Just send it down in BR - it’s just not that good. I will happily face it in a 7.0-7.3 right now.
Last decompression on air is going to be compresses back while mig-sabre compression is staying. I can’t really believe in gaijin… though it’s ofc needed
btw 471B/D is far from this. Not enough pen can either stop the shell outside or absorb most fragments. Fuse sensitivity makes it overpen… were overpenning hellcats, now more light stuff at this br. Sad cannon
It can’t go down. This is the issue. What do you expect a random 6.3 tank to do about it?
IS-4M suffers from exact same issues as the Maus, just in a slightly lower magnitue.
At 7.3 maybe it somehow could’ve been bearable, but 7.0 is absolutely crazy. Even IS-6 shouldn’t go down that much, let alone IS-4M
No No compression
BR 471B/D’s TNT equivalent is past internal overpressure threshold iirc. I haven’t used it in a while, but from what i remember as long as you pen and fuse activates it’s basicslly guaranteed kill
Nuke it in one shot with M109A1, but i digress. I’d rather use the Maus any day of the week. Just can’t see myself in a place where I’ll ever be bothered using the IS-4M (and I’m someone who uses heavy tanks more than most people).
Just because there are a select few of lower BR tanks that can kill it, doesn’t change the fact that majority of them would be quite literally hopeless.
And IS-4 is actually fine where it is as long as you get downtiered. It’s not early HEAT slingers like Ratel, M46, Marder or Fiat that are an issue for this tank. What’s problematic is stuff like Turm 3 with 5s reload and full stabiliser.
I’m aware and don’t care.
Second time you’ve mentioned this tank that dies by anything when its turret gets tickled. It’s actually one of the tanks that an IS-4M would have no problem nuking. It’s the 8.7s that shug off its rounds that are the real problem.
Anyway, I don’t see no harm in a tank getting more rounds even if its a token gesture.
You’d be surprised how many 6.3s (and lower) can penetrate the IS-4M.
Then you shouldn’t get into discussion about balance.
I am mentioning it again, because it’s a perfect example. Turm 3 has been undertiered for ages, it’s an easy 9.0 material.
Just because it’s not hard to kill when caught off guard doesn’t make it any less overpowered
It just shows you’ve got no understanding why the IS-4M is struggling.
Anything that has HEAT-FS and maybe a few tanks with APDS although those will only pen in very few specific areas. On top of that a few HE slingers and maybe Sturer Emil. That will be about it.
I understand it well. It seems like you don’t understand that simply bringing a tank down in BR isn’t a golden solution that will deal with all balance problems.
Go and try playing some 3.0/3.3 when KV-1E comes back around for sale. You will understand why you can’t randomly bring down “super” heavy tanks in BR however you want.
Or alternatively go play some 6.7 US when Maus comes back for anniverary, it should do the trick as well
I play USA 6.7 a lot. Including the M6E1 a lot. When I’m up against the Maus or IS-4M, I typically have something that can easily nuke it, because I bring a line-up. We seem to have different ideas of how well the IS-4M is armoured.
I agree it sucks the way it is now but at 7.3 it will curbstomp hard in downtier, it’s in a weird spot sadly, just like the IS-6
Just because you have some HE slinger in a lineup that can deal with it (if he is clueless that is) doesn’t make it any more balanced.
Having one tank that limits what you can and cannot play at certain BR in certain MM is not healthy for the game.
If you were to get uptiered fro. 6.3, 6.7 or whatever and run into a squad of things like IS-4s you are basically forced to play a few certain things to even have a chance at dealing with them. This is toxic.
Stuff like KV-1B or KV-1E didn’t suddenly become balanced after Gaijin added M44s. No?
