Oh it’s one of those again. I’m glad we can finally play IRIS-T again and we already have sour grapes trying to ruin the fun for everybody. Nevermind the fact that AIM-9X was doing what SLM did while it was neutered yet nobody seemed to complain.
Because the AIM9X had a limited range. Good luck out running a IrisT SLM.
And? It is the same principle, you get too close and you die, also FB-10 is a long range missile with plenty of energy that can hit targets far out. The nerf essentially made IRIS-T impossible to hit targets out to 5 km and that’s if the seeker would actually do anything since most times it did not even work.
Nobody is forcing players to fly in a straight line, you can defeat it by using terrain and flying low. Admittedly, some maps are not always the best for flying defensively but you get the idea.
Also we so many CAS buffs lately that the nerf needed to be reverted. We got Grippens with 16 SPICE, Eurofighters with 8 SPICE, two Su-30s Kh-38s in Japan and Russia. And the list goes on. It’s only a matter of time when ARM gets added so that might even things out.
Actually the missile itself is SL not SLM.
SLM has even more range.
Actually FB-10 has shitty range compare to its real life counterpart.

Well I haven’t died to it yet. It’s poopoo compared to the SA-15. FB-10 is actually more scary than whatever that thing fires.
The IrisT is on a whole different level when it comes to energy.The FB10A is a brick beyond 8-9km, the IrisT on the other hand can clap you at 20km+. The problem is you cannot dodge the missile or flare it. As you said if the map doesn’t give you hard cover like a mountain you are guaranteed dead.
There has to be some kind of counter to it otherwise it’s just bad game design. And that counter needs to keep the 70SP vs 800+SP in to account.
If it claps you at 20km then u flew realy badly. Gajin has it modeled very badly.
That sounds more like u got problems in general in defeating ir missles. If you can dodge aim9ms u can dodge iris t.

More like 13 km, that’s when it loses most of its energy and goes subsonic from some tests we did a while back. It can only get you from that far if you’re literally flying in a straight line.
And you can always put a hill or something in between you to not die right away.
That’s just my experience from when the IrisT was released. I have to admit that I haven’t had any issues with it since the 4km seeker nerf, but I remember correctly the times where a IrisT was launched at me the moment I spawned I wasn’t able to do anything to dodge it. Especially with a lot of maps offering no hard cover and trees don’t over visual protection.
Would be nice if Gaijin would fix datalink turning off when seeker is active, and fixing the double loft.
Oh and, fin AoA fix, the missile can’t do more than 20gs. It’s rated for like 40gs.
It’s nice having the real missile’s capabilities back but I suspect they did this because they couldn’t get Datalink to work properly. So the missile would never reach the target back when it was nerfed, since it would lose DL the moment a target went off radar…
Irl seeker activating up to 25km. 10km is acceptable though in game since maps are small
