It still more reliable than IRIS-T, and that’s undeniable. I’ve scored 5 to 6 air kills games with the Flakbus by just plinking helis and the occasional low flier out of the sky. SLM can’t do jack. Even at close range.
No, I’m not guiding an already slow missile for 15 or so kilometers until the missile is right on their face. You’d have to be complete idiot to stay painted by the radar of the SLM for that long. IRIS-T is so easily defeatable by both planes and helicopters that the experience using it is absolutely horrid. “FnF” my ass, more like Fire and guide for 30 seconds and have DL break at the last second.
Pulling my personal stats like that’s an epic own isn’t helping move the conversation forward either. VT-1 still holds up, specially against the DLIRCM cancer that’s plaguing the game.
It just illustrates how your perception of things can differ from the actual state of things. Especially if you’re obsessed with a certain idea and only remember those cases that reinforce that idea.
Let’s see if there are any changes in the next patch. Hopefully they fix something, or at least revert the change. This nerf to the SLM is probably the last straw on top of a long list of things that make me wonder if this game is still worth spending time on.

in their eyes this is how “it works irl” so thats how it must be in game too; just completely ignoring the reason for this behaviour irl (which is a functioning radar)
The lock range nerf was so bad that it makes the FlaRakRad with its VT-1 look good. It’s just impossible to guide a missile for 10 or 15 kilometers without DL breaking. The nerf pretty much made it so that only people who are in range to kill you can be engaged.

You know how bad the situation is? Today I rolled out my flarakrad for a bit. The most frequent scenario - 3-4 mi-28’s just hovering, not even paying attention to me. I used SRC, they’ve seen the ping. They just got used to how op this trash is, the biggest engagement with mi-28 I saw - was him sending a SINGLE LMUR my way… On which I dropped a smoke and recreated this minecraft mechanism using vt-1 instead of end rod.
But oh, well, what do I know about game design?
You know why they’re not fixing it? There are 2 reasons actually.
1)It was intentional
2)They’re not getting enough negative pushback. And they never would. There’s like 3 topics with same 4-5 guys telling same thing over and over again. I called it prior to nerf happening on live. Not only me though. They did it to EF as well, leopards, countless examples. Yet one thing stays the same. They must buff 38mt. That’s just so pointless. Any non rusian top tier nation plays like that:
1)You spawn
2)Timer appears above your head, 3-4min approx.
3)When timer runs out - you pretty much can leave the match, because it signals that a boss" has appeared. And he’s probably not alone and there’s next to nothing you can do. Any ground operation comes to end and if you don’t have enough SP - well there’s nothing to do for you besides being a snack.
That’s exactly what they did, they nerfed this thing to the ground, so the lobotomized players had a chance to kill you in the small window you have to fire back. I haven’t played much of the SLM lately because it is genuinely awful, not just from the lock range nerf but all the other issues that plague it.
I have the similar issue in Iris as well. You can’t click on contacts in your list. Sometimes like several jets might be present, but you simply can’t lock or shot at them.
Yep, playing MBTs is just extremly unfun, with KH’s and those new helis around. Weren’t the new SPAAs supposed to hardcounter all these super op air threats? Now its even worse than before introduction of Iris etc. Back then we just had to deal with KH-38 jets. Now its still that menace, plus these helis which spacebar everything in two minutes.
