AFAIK the change only affects the jettison of the nose-cone. As the SLS doesn’t have a nose-cone there’s nothing to change. By the way the range of the SLS is so short that it could lock-on the target while still being at the ground. Why not use the missile seeker as IRST without the radar in this case? xD
It doesn’t have datalink so it wouldn’t be usable at all if it was given the 4km range, it already has the shortest range of all missiles for 12.0 4km would make it worthless so i guess snail decided artificial nerf on the SLM to stop people from being shot at their airfield.
You cant unfortunately the radar has to be on for it to fire even if you have a lock on a target above you
In game anyways idk about irl
Because thats how the SLS works, Radar slaves/tells the Seeker its over there, Seeker snaps on it and catches its target
It was a half-jokingly question. I know that a missile seeker is far from an actual IRST and not feesable for that kind of application.
ngl i think its a buff to the IRIS-T SLM because before this, planes firing ATGMs had a much higher chance of the IRIS-T locking onto the missile’s heat signature instead of the plane itself that made it really frustrating to kill targets launching weapons like the KH38 since the missile’s exhaust burns hotter than the aircraft the IRIST would often switch and track the missile instead of the jet so you’d lose the kill
now it stays focused on the aircraft even when the target launches a missile or dives away once the plane passes the 4 km mark, the IRIS-T holds the correct track and goes straight for it this makes it way more reliable and much harder to fool with missile exhaust or flare spam
but let’s wait and see
Need footage from dev server, based on your claim.
still not perfect i sometimes it just go for whatever but its better than before and lets hope this can make missile loft above the mi28nm if it was like at far way and hit them from top down approach that way the laser thingy can’t fool irist lets hope at least
but probably would be worse vs aircraft in like now instead of 10km immediately lock on plane now it need tws and DL to guide it all the way to 4km lock range so yeah you win here you lose there
And do you really think they will code the jettison of the nose cone? Or just implement a half-assed hard lock at a 4 km acquisition range? We have enough history with Gaijin to know which one is more probable than the other…
Here are some of the differences between SLM and SLS (same seeker), courtesy of AIM-120C6 AMRAAM
The nerf is pretty drastic, you can essentially just dodge the missile by plunging it into the ground the moment it loses DL. Not to mention that close range performance is pretty poor, the only way to die to IRIS-T is if you stay on its radar DL for too long for the missile to get close enough now…
So like exactly as I told xd
I guarantee you if this had been a Russian missile it would’ve had like 30 km of IIR lock range lmao, these devs man.
youre acting like the Russian r27et isn’t locked to 30km lock range in online games when irl it could go up to 70km with its original seekerhead
Spoiler

Maybe on a sun it can, or somewhere above 30km
All air to air and ground to air IR missiles have reduced lock range values, Gaijin’s IR calculations differ a lot from real life, either for balance or some other or reason.
It’s a 5th gen IIR missile going from what’s already gimped but acceptable 10 km lock range to an unreasonable an unrealistic lock range of only just 4.
These systems are too complex to be implemened properly, I’ve already talked about how the lock range will differ on the hundred’s of variables that exist before launch.
Are you sure that it is only 70km from the earth to the sun
In communism everything is real, komrad
