They might as well have made IRIS-T SARH with a contact fuze like the Stinger, the fact that you have to guide an already slow missile until it’s right on their face for however many kilometers to the target is a crime. “FnF” my ass. 10 km was already an underestimate, I mean just look at the IRL stats of something like the R-27ET which somehow has better lock range than a mid 2010s IIR missile.

youre also comparing a 350 kg class missile to a 130 kg class missile (though im 100% sure iris-t slm seekerhead is underperforming anyways)

Its all about propaganda, nothing more, Gaijin is under massiv russian influence, so they have to support the russian bias.
Its a fact, that all the specs of russian tanks, jets and so on, are officialy optimised, in reality the armor is not that strong, the gun is not that powerful, the plane not that fast and so on. In the western countries the whole military equipment is made by independent companies that are in a competition, so they have to be 100% honest about there specs, otherwise they are liabel. Beside the fact that some things in this game are not allowed to be like in reality, otherwise there would be no real competition in the matches.
If we take a look at real war the german stuff is dominating, sure its not made for a long term conflict and in that way not as good as russian stuff, that is very durable. But in a match like situation most of the western systems that are used in war thunder, are more advanced then russian and chinese stuff.
So for the propaganda, germany has to be weak in this game and maybe for the competition, but it feels much like its kind of a penalty for supporting ukrain with stuff that dominates the battlefield.

Russian bias may not be in how they make things, but in how they measure them. They’ll accept a crumpled piece of paper scribbled by ‘Nikolai’ saying how amazing a vehicle is and how fast it goes, but they will not accept primary German sources saying it’s a marketing lie. The way they treat Russian vehicle documentation is 146% biased.

This doesn’t explain why the SLS has still more thermal / IR lock range. Its a baseless nerf, so Suchoi players are free to spacebar german teams.

I wish they were honest with us, but they knew the outrage that would ensue shortly after. Imagine them saying: “We are arbitrarily reducing the lock range because this system is overperforming and it’s making CAS premium sales go down”
