Well first of it is definetely not “regular” that this occures, but it has happened to me on a few (less than 5 I believe) occasions and I play solo all the time.
but lets look at a few possibilities:
longer queue times remove limits on the matchmaker 1 by 1.
the match maker could have run into a bug (overflow or skipping a check due to bad coding)
The server could have lagged out and accidentially dropped them into a wrong game because of overlapping match IDs between the servers (imagine it like each match on each server having an ID and server ID. Multi server players being placed into the corresponding match ID + server ID. if two matches end up with the same ID but the server laggs out and ignores the server ID chaos ensues)
my guess is nr. 2 or nr. 1 possibly both as the match is also stacked with 9.3 indicating that it is an almost 100% 9.3 match or a +/-0BR to +/-0.3BR match. This indicates that a lot of people waited for a longer time at that BR. Removing the +/-1BR requirement from the MM, this happens quite often and is hard to notice in a match.
The narrowing of the BR range from the normal could have caused an over or underflow and created the situation where the MM placed them in the wrong match due to their BRs being mistaken for higher BRs.
It might also be that they waited so long that the upper BR limit got removed, but in that case one would assume that they are not going to be placed in an almost 100% 9.3 match but rather into a 9.3 match to replace some of the 8.3s which would make up the meat of that match in a normal MM situation.
Oh one more idea.
The MM could have bugged out and made them into a 9.7-10.0 squad. Making them the main stars in a 9.7-10.0 match with only 2 top tier players (which is fully possible as the only set rule is that there can be no more than 8 top tier players per match, but not on what side they are or how many there are exactly.)
So a match with lets say two IS4Ms on one team and exclusively 6.7s and 7.0s is absolutely possible and normal behaviour for the MM.
This would explain why there are so many 9.3s and some 9.0s as a mid heavy match would also be possible. SO 9.3 would be the mid BR with 9.0 the low and 9.7 the high. a +/-0.7BR match, which is quite common.
why?
Because I am trying to understand the bug that has occured? Because I just so happen to have spend at least 40h of my real life time (over the past 3 or 4 years) arguing about the MM and how it works in order to try to persuade people why +/-0.7BR MM is not only possible but also for the better?
It just so happens that this issue falls right into my ball-park of knowledge of the game. And a topic I like to discuss, argue and speculate about?
No that is not what it says. It says you can be up tiered by 1.0 battle rating it does not say at any point that you can be up tiered any higher or lower than that it says plus or minus 1.0. In fact a full point in battle rating makes it hard to beat to begin with. For instance I have three planes and the highest one is 1.7 I get a full up tier, that means that after my first 1.7 plane is dead I’m pretty much screwed because the rest of my planes are 1.3 going up against 2.7. The person with a 2.7 is pretty much going to murder everybody who’s not close to his br. If you want to look at it another way at 1.7 I’m looking at 12.7 MM machine guns. At 2.7 we’re talking 20 mm Cannon even 50 Cals. So if you push the tear over a full point we’re talking about I’m just a flying Target at that point. I can’t shoot the enemy because their weapons were more powerful and have a longer range. I digress though it is what it is.
But the need to see the scoreboard is a key thing here, if the squad was a created squad, then there’s grounds to suspect the other player in the squad using a BR higher than the OP.
No.
First, you can only start searching for a match if all squadmates are ready, if he disconected later he would still be in the match. You can always rejoin a squad match no matter what, which is different from solo play.
So we would still see the third person in the replay, just with the normal parachute icon or the “quit” icon. It is impossible for him to be not visible in the replay if he was in the squad
So no. there is no reason to see the scoreboard, as we can see all the information on the score board and more in the replay.
See the difference between the squads in the scoreboard? Mine is an autosquad, the others are created. There’s a couple of autosquads on the enemy, but 3+ created ones.
I don’t think you see this detail from the server replay, and that’s where I’m pointing to, as I’m sure the other that commented about the scoreboard is as well.
Exactly, I was fighting Israeli M-51s at 4.7 Britain. I was fighting Maus at 6.3, hell, I’ve fought Tigers at 4.3 Russia. But somehow it’s always a lie, and there must have been something in the water, and totally not Gaining being themselves.
It looks like your friend had Tornado IDS WTD 61 in his lineup.
