Interesting Changes (TOP TIER)

> I’m referring to TOP TIER.

In my last post, I tried to share some ideas to improve Ground RB matches, but most people just started arguing about the Pantsir and ignored the actual suggestions.

So here are some ideas I believe would really improve the GRB experience:

1. Limit the number of aircraft

It would be great to limit how many planes can be flying at once during a match. Maybe around 3 aircraft max per team would be acceptable.

Right now, GRB matches are turning into air CAS matches, which demotivates those who are actually trying to play tanks.

2. Push airspawn further away

On some maps, the airspawn is way too close to Pantsir range. You spawn and are instantly locked by a Pantsir camping the airspawn.

3. Improve airfield defense

Adding missile-based defense systems to airfields would be a huge positive change.

Some players finish their CAS run and camp the enemy airspawn or airfield, making it impossible for others to play or do any counter-CAS.

Planes like the Tornado have almost no self-defense capability and always rely on teammates to survive. If airfields had missile SAM, it would give these weaker aircraft a fighting chance without relying on exposure to enemy SPAAs.

4. Ranked or improved matchmaking

This is something I’ve been thinking about recently.

The skill gap between players is massive. In many matches, only 2 to 4 players on a team perform decently — the rest quit after one death or barely try.

A ranked system or performance-based matchmaking would help.
Matchmaking could use battle points: kills, assists, objective captures, repairs, etc.

Final Thought

A quality-of-life update focused purely on improving the gameplay experience would be amazing.

I agree with etherything but a skill based matchmaker. instead limit the purchase of top tier premium packs to players that have had a certain amount of battles or acquired a specific rank

I like the ranked idea. answer the “premium buyers are mentally challenged” without punishing people who just want to buy premium after getting lodged/stuck in tier 5/6. Works better than the stupid restriction to premium that you can purchase. If the grind wasn’t so crap the idea would be good but the one we got right now is just MK-ULTRA SMT with how advanced the aneurysm and addiction caused by the pile of garbage they call rank progression.

CAS limitations are great but forcing the entire playerbase into SBMM because of, predominantly, top tier wallet warriors is truly one of the worst ideas ever floated on a forum overflowing with bad ideas.

There’s literally 0 alternative to that. either screw the best players or screw everyone. and I’d rather fuck the best player in favour of the mediocre player when it comes to matchmaking.

Be warned wanting this though. It could easily just result in far more 1DLs, as people may choose to leave rather than respawn in another tank, this might be innocently done, especially if they may not have another. For some time when first reaching top tier, my choice was to respawn in a (back then) 10.3 tank with my 11.3 lineup or spawn in a CAS aircraft. Usually I chose the latter. But a few nations such as Britain, have terrible top tier ground forces balance and are largely carried by their good CAS.

Also, CAP is one of the few effective counters to CAS at the moment, and this could in many ways buff CAS further as people may not be able to spawn in dedicated fighters because all slots on your team are filled with strikers. Whilst this is in reference to top tier. Gaijin has yet to demonstrate any meaningful interest in having unique gamemode set ups for each BR. So what is done at top tier, could easily affect bottom tier too

I largely don’t have issue with the other points though a ranked system would have to be independent to the current gamemode

If you’d played a decent amount of Ground you see that alternatives absolutely do exist. As it stands you’ve bought into top tier after barely scratching Rank 4, played ~20 games, and decided the literal only fix is SBMM.

Great post, a few critiques from me.

1- Not possible due to the respawn system. The SP system is the limit that should remain, if people want to waste spawn points on aircraft instead of MBTs, more power to them; they’ll lose the match more than likely.
2- Yes, as they make all the ground maps to the 80x80km standard, the airspawns should be made 25 - 30km away.
3- This requires new SPAA in general, but I think TOR-M1 from China on all airfields will suffice for now.
4- No. Ranked matchmaking ruins the longevity of games.
How many ranked games have died since 2005 vs unranked games as a percentage of games.
The answer will be higher.

So yeah, only two complaints.

Nah, patriots on every airfield and we good

lmao barely scratched rank 4 and 20 games in he said. absolute comedy this lad. can’t even profile screen properly.

I’ll let my game on auto start match during the night and when I return to play I’ll have fun matches against amoebas. How nice it could be, I don’t know why people is against this.

+1 for all BRs.

Just force an airfield spawn, and move the airfields father back at rank 7-8. Do the same for lower BRs too, CAS shouldn’t get a free airspawn.

There is zero chance that gaijin will implement SBMM in a way that is enjoyable. Maybe a ranked mode could work, but WT needs more stuff to support that, such as a greater focus on teamwork and team communication.

Fully agree.

Unfortunately I don’t agree with your #1 and #4 suggestion and I’ll explain why.

At first when I started playing War Thunder I was also against the idea of having aircraft in my tank battles because they were, well “Over Powered” and all I wanted was some tank on tank action without having someone dropping a bomb on me when for example I had won a very good forwarded position and being punished by someone who just flew above me and dropped a bomb didn’t seem fair.

However, as I played more and more and got better at the game, I thought to myself that I too would like to perhaps have a plane in my lineup and drop some bombs on the enemy team because if anything it was a good way to secure wins and be useful to my team in a way that a tank couldn’t assist.

Your #1 suggestion leaves a lot of grey areas that need further answering.

First of all, you are removing players freedom of having the ability to use their spawn tickets to spawn in their planes by locking it to 3 per team as you’ve mentioned which leads to the following problems:

1- There’s going to be a lot of light tanks rushing into CAP points and then suiciding to spawn their CAS (trying to make sure they’re able to spawn their plane). Whether they’re useful to the team or not is subjective. If they end up dying that means they’re probably out of tickets and you are left with one less player in your team.
If they don’t end up dying and go back to the airfield and just repair and refill, no one else is able to spawn their plane.

2- By having aircraft locked/limited per team a lot of players might just idle in the menu waiting for a friendly aircraft to go down, so they can attempt to respawn a plane of their own, which itself only makes the game experience worse for everyone else involved as less players are spawning in/battling.

3- You didn’t mention helicopters at all which means even if players can’t spawn in a plane because its “restricted” we might get a big influx of helicopters instead unless you plan on restricting those too?

4- Some nations will be penalized more than others with this being added. Nations such as the US for example have a lot of good CAS aircraft that everyone just loves having and adding them to their lineups.

I agree, the Strela, the 2S6 and the Pantsir are really good compared to most other SPAA’s at their battle ratings, and I mean just look at Israel for example… they got a Chaparral all the way from 9.7 to 12.0 (assuming they use it) and still Israel top tier players are some of the best I’ve seen performing in top tier battles because they make it work in other ways.

And truth be told, only every now and then will I ever run into a really good CAS player, most players just fly over the battlefield which makes them an easy target for any SPAA, russian or not at the higher battle ratings.

As for #4, the ranked system I believe adding a skill matchmaking will be the end of this game as we enjoy it…

Players would just be way more sweaty and the game wouldn’t be as fun in a ranked environment.
If anything If you want a “ranked experience” just look for a squadron that is interested in doing squadron battles and you will find out why those battles can be boring. Maybe you’ll enjoy them, I’ve enjoyed a bit of squadron but its not something that I would like to be doing everyday in War Thunder. There are times I play the game to relax, while listening to music and stuff, and there are times I try to play a bit more “serious”.

I do agree that something needs to be done about one death leavers, I am guilty of this “crime” every once in a while (not often) because of different reasons, either full uptiers, or I tried a very agressive play but someone else beat me to it and the map is too big to get back into action, etc.

Le reddit gold for you sir

Skill Based Matchmaking killed CoD, if you want War Thunder to die, that’s exactly how you do it.
