Infantry/vehicle interaction

I really hope there’s going to be something like this for grb aswell in a more toned down manner (being able to deploy infantry on a capture point so it caps faster or mechanics that help you and teammates repair, etc)

Almost wrote a topic on my own until I saw this thread, What I’m going to write here is more of an incoherent collection of ideas that I have long thought about as my hopes in the future of this game, also taking notes and inspiration from more “replayable” games such as Squad and Call to Arms: Gates of Hell - Ostfront that doesn’t rely on progression (researching vehicles and the grind stuff).

I very much second this idea of support vehicles (APCs, transport trucks, cargo helicopters) to bridge the gap of infantry and armored gameplay. It is logistics after all that makes infantry work.

The idea of “Infantry” being the center of this WiP mode in War Thunder has been quite controversial to this day as it diverts from the core gameplay of War Thunder, that is the use of vehicles. While it was a big reveal earlier this year, I think the reception today might have been also good if it was centered more on “Logistics and Support” instead of Infantry.

Deployable infantry using APCs and IFVs, loading and unloading of cargo from supply points (like in one of the previous April Fools event, Mad Thunder) could give more depth the game mode that we have seen so far from the demos.

There is so much that can be done with the cargo mechanics from Mad Thunder event and it could make the game mode feel more dynamic to play.

The transport of troops and supplies, perhaps even an additional mechanic to make a forward spawn for infantry or resupply points for specialized soldiers like anti-tank or anti-air weapons would definitely make the game feel more diverse rather than just pressing “W” to go into a capture point or a camping spot. Capture the objective isn’t a bad game mode but the way it is now in War Thunder is just the same basically.

This brings me to another question. What is new from it?
I have had discussions with some players from my squadron. Most of them have expressed a form of disinterest after seeing the first gameplay from War Thunder’s official stream channels. It is just the same old capture points of objective they said and personally, I’m afraid that it would get boring quick as it brings nothing too different from another existing infantry game I played that is Enlisted, as also mentioned from other threads.

It is in my opinion that it would have been better if it was centered more about logistic vehicles instead, with infantry and armor support only as auxillary gameplay.

Infantry could be instead be used as secondary units created by APCs or Transport vehicles, in the same sense that scout vehicles can spawn recon drones, or top tier SAM radars can spawn TEL platforms. While armored vehicles like MBTs and maybe also IFVs are fine as it is now being spawned using SP points.

APCs could maybe respawn infantry as long as they are in a Supply point or a captured objective zone.

The idea is that transport vehicles such as trucks, APCs, IFVs could have an infantry squad as research modules as Light vehicles have drones as a research module. Perhaps basic riflemen squad as a stock research module, then maybe an anti-tank squad on the latter research stage. For supply vehicles, it could be an engineer squad that can build defensive structures such as tank barriers or barbed wire. There could even be special forces with transport helicopters such as MH-6, UH-1, Mi-24P, or Mi-8.

Anyway, my take is just as good as any other player suggestions around. Just wanted to get it out here rather than just be a wishful thinking. I’ve felt frustrated long enough and hoping at least we get something different from this new WiP game mode.

Also kind of a long sidenote regarding some modern IFVs being in lower BRs, Infantry could potentially solve the problem with BR ratings. Modern IFVs are often put on a lower battle ratings as they don’t have the capacity to work as efficient alongside other MBTs in their respective time periods. IFVs doesn’t have as much purpose as MBTs since they are, well, Infantry Fighting Vehicles. They lack the role in the standard game modes that lacks infantry. So if this new thing is properly implemented in the game, I think it could solve some BR deviations, of course with proper scaling of Spawn Point costs.
