Infantry mode Battle Ratings

There’s a lot about the infantry mode that we don’t know anything at all about, but we can make some postulates that I believe nobody would disagree on.

  • There will be an sort of tech tree for the infantry gear or something to progress along like the rest of the game
  • Each item on the “tech tree” would have a battle rating much like everything else in the game

Exactly how it will be done isn’t important, the question or discussion I want to raise is about the battle ratings that would in practice be applied to the weapons.

It would be fairly easy to see that the Springfield M1903 bolt action rifle should be a lower BR than the semi automatic M1 Garand, which in turn is a lower BR than the magazine fed M14. But how big would that BR difference even be? How big should it be?

How about a M14 versus an M16? or M16A1 versus M16A4 or HK 416? M14 versus HK 417?
I think we all would like to justify them being at different battle ratings but if it will be based on actual in game performance I think it is going to be hard to justify much of a difference.
Unlike tanks, planes, or boats you have a pretty good chance in a head on fight regardless of what you or the enemy is equipped with regardless of how large of a difference there is in battle rating.
A “worse” gun isn’t much less effective than a “better” gun.

I suppose the difference in gadgets could somewhat justify the difference in battle rating, but that would be stuff like the drones and the like and an either you have it or you don’t situation.
The AT weapons would rather be something of a consequence of the battle rating it’s at, you would only need an AT4 or RPG7v2 at the BR where you need an RPG7v2 or AT4. Kind of self-fulfilling.

Just thinking about it myself I feel like we’ll probably have quite bad BR compression in the infantry mode but also that the largest casualty of it would be immersion. Like your M16 from Vietnam isn’t actually less capable than the top tier SCAR or AK 12 but they should probably be more than 1.0 BR apart anyways you know? and you also have to fit everything else in between too?

Ya they will likely come up with a system for infantry mode just like how some aircraft over preform in mix battles so thy get a higher BR or even lower.

Rifles may be a bit different unlike tanks the mark 01 human is still just as bad at taking fire as they where in the 1800s though there is armor so guns will likely play a different job in the level of BR. APC though may be harder to balance because they are a armored box with you in side with some MGs. But I cannot wait for someone to bring a civil war era Springfield Model 1861 from some event and try to use it to win at top tier.

I was thinking that body armour and i guess in turn ammunition could be like justification for upping one set of weapons over another.

They said the tech would start at Korean war era, and if you only get regular ball ammunition for those guns they would become kinda sucky once you get to the equivalent of SAPI or NIJ 3 armour, unless you’re hitting those headshots.

Hopefully that’s not gonna be a regular match up once we get the tech trees, would be kinda funny if for once we have a game mode where you don’t really notice the uptiers

Korean War tech is just late WW2 not much changed. Armoured vehicles could be overpowered or strangely weak from YouTube videos of infantry mode and people complaining on the form looks to be weak.

Urban combat plus RPG and top of the line tanks don’t do so well.
