I think it will be similar to infantry in the WW1 event. Just AI moving throughout the map.
But it would be nice to have deployable infantry from IFV/troop carriers or from helicopters. Would give them a nice new feature, might not be the most useful but they could have some benefits like capping a point quicker, scouting out enemies or shooting at them (not dealing loads of damage but again like how the WW1 AI could through anti-tank grenades at you), or even helping to repair damage on teammates vehicles.
No armour best armour, therefore being infantry with anything antitank will be incredibly trolly. Climbing up allied tanks to get up to a roof to screw with enemies, for example.
Really if they were to add infantry based on the different tiers/eras (WW2, Korean War, Vietnam, Cold War, modern day, ect) then they could easily make a good Battlefield competitor out of War Thunder.
Stuff like this happening being a good example of BF style goofing around.
My expectations are - It was an April fools joke.
While cool and i’d be all for it and all it probably won’t happen, if it does happen it could be interesting but the logistics are pretty large.
Required Increase in player count per match to accommodate vehicle, infantry and air players
Increase in map details or even new maps as you’d be modelling the interior of almost every building on a map and the majority of the current maps are specifically tailored for vehicles
A whole new economy system for infantry Classes, specializations, weapons, weapon customization, accessories etc etc etc
If it does come it’ll be a long time till it comes as just dropping infantry into the current ground mode and expecting it to work with the current game is a bit silly.
So, if infantry do come. Really only light, IFV, and open vehicles would be Somewhat vulnerable to them at range, and most vehicles in close urban environments right?
Mainly thinking sense the bazooka could pen about 100mm and the panzerfaust could pen 200mm give or take.
Prob is there are better infantry weapons in the world…ATGMs and drones…hidden infantry can be deadly up to a few kms with modern weapons…
AND ALSO I am guessing people are worried about the tank survival odds on urban maps where historically infantry holds the upper hand :) AND this is a tank game (at least in GF)…
Seeing how quickly players can detect and kill an enemy player with IR from across the map, I don’t imagine IFVs and tanks with HE rounds would have too much of a problem taking out infantry squads. They’ll just point and click at any heat signature they see without a friendly marker.
