I wonder how much of this is in response to other games - eg Aces and Armour is proposing AI infantry that players will have to work to support in tanks and planes… so everyone is looking for points of differences in using infantry.
AI infantry hasn’t actually been a problem for over 20 years - Combat Mission managed it without much apparent bother from about 2001 or 2002
Some WT fans already created the gameplay for FPV drones and MAVIC drones used to correct fire for MLRS. It is very fun to play.
I hope Gaijin will do it as well.
From what I understand the trailer is an announcement of their plans for infantry and FPV drones in the long term for War Thunder. And the WW1 thing will be WW1 infantry with WW1 tanks and planes, at least to my understanding.
It’s a company, that does designing of fire arms. If you mean singular person, obviously John Moses Browning. Just watched the Garand Thumb video of the M1911 running after over a century. Pretty cool.
I don’t know, it seems like a really bad idea to announce such a huge thing the day before April Fools, in the middle of the update cycle.
I kinda doubt that such a huge change would be announced between updates with NO prior hints or confirmation or anything. Especially with the Covert Disclosures that usually hint at stuff. Like infantry literally changes the formula that’s been in place for over a decade. And not in a minor way like with drones or helis.
As far as I’m concerned, I play War Thunder as a vehicular combat game and don’t want to see infantry. It will be a bad addition to the game IF it’s real and not a poorly announced April Fools.
I think they’ll likely have it as a seperate gamemode, kinda similar to how they have in Enlisted with “Squads” or “Lone Fighters” iirc. I honestly hope they do it like that because it’ll be really nice for those who don’t want to deal with little green army men and good for those of us who want to go bully tanks. It would also be very good for the game going forward to bring it into the more mainstream realistic games
