Infantry! AI or Players

With the Announcement of Infantry and expanded tech trees, do we think the Infantry will be AI controlled or Player controlled

I think it would be cool to have infantry as “backups” for when you run out of spawn points in a mission but want to keep fighting

It’s NPC’s.

Hopefully they will overhaul there entire AI system, the Infantry in the event were a great idea but they lack interaction, and being built into the map almost allways results in the same pateern

Player controlled will let the rocket man camp engage.

Most likely they will eventually come as player controlled.

Full Coaxial MGs control lookin like a pretty good idea now

Honestly the update will be a dissapointment if it isnt player controllable also a missed opportunity
personally i think its pretty likely for them to be player controllable since this game needs some new form of content since we are running out of veichles to add.
imagine if they added an infantry tech tree xdddd

gaijin will find a way to make a complete mess out of it. Most of the maps just aren’t suited to infantry combat. They’d have to be completely reworked. Considering that Enlisted already exists and gaijin has done little to adapt maps for modern vehicles, don’t hold your breath for anything that actually works. Expecting a balancing nightmare instead. The only infantry addition that somewhat worked was the power armor event and that’s not what they advertised in the new trailer

They should, instead of tanks or planes it would be weapons, you would have a special slot for infnatry, and depending on the weapon the uniform changes (rank I would be 1930s earl 40, etc)

Thy could make it a separate game mode, who knows maybe this is the first step to Historical battles

its NPCs in the event so im hoping its AI at first and slowly evolves into players too

Go have a look at Enlisted - that’s how Player Controlled Infantry would work, since Enlisted shares a lot of DNA with WarThunder.

Sam, or at least AI that acts somewhat like a player

They did it a step further and made a separate game.

Enlisted has rubbish AI - “Combat Mission” was better 25 years ago - even the AI infantry in the WW1 event behave more sensibly than Enlisted’s AI - they stay in trenches, throw grenades at tanks (there’s no effect but they do do it), rush from cover to cover.

Compared to that Enlisted is a pack of discombobulated gerbils on ice!

Im talking about, historical matchmaking, uneven and team size, specific vehicles to use, and infantry, depending on the map

Well, they have done historical mm in the past for events amd are doing one now.

Im sure they will do more in the future. I doubt it will ever be a gamemode seeing how the mm looks everytime.

I’m hoping it’s like the game “Heliborne”. In that game, you only fly rotary vehicles, but depending on what you are flying, Huey or Cobra, you get different loadouts. Cobras have their attack configurations with different appropriate weapons, whereas Hueys have some weapon loadouts AND infantry loadouts (very simple: basic rifleman, AT Team, AA Team, Mortar Team). You have to land at objectives and deploy riflemen to secure it (they run and take up defensive positions and fortifications), and can choose to deploy your special infantry wherever you want. You don’t control them at all besides having a small area around your vehicle that you can tell them to go to initially, but no control after that, they effectively hunker down and engage targets when they come into range. The only exception is the mortar teams, which other players or yourself, in a reconnaissance heli (e.g Kiowa) can designate fire missions to all mortar teams in range. Leads to cool dynamic battles. In WT, I would love to see M113s, M1114s, Bradleys, and even M35 or CCKW Deuce-and-a-halfs get added that can carry infantry teams to deploy around the map. Whether they make it a requirement for infantry to capture a point, i think is up to debate or different game mode, but adding different infantry with slight customization (uniforms, small weapon modifications) would be awesome and a great advancement of gameplay. But I dont want to player controlled infantry. It would turn the game into something else. Let them be basic AI that you can have some control over, but otherwise do their thing as appropriate. Just imagine playing with a squad and telling your infantry to ride on a squadmate’s Sherman to take an objective. Would be absolutely cinematic :)

It would be awesome for them to add a use for transport helicopters like Mi-8 and Mh60
