The Tornado IDS is currently capable of achieving supersonic speeds (Mach 1+) without the use of afterburners. This is contrary to real-world performance data, as the Tornado IDS requires afterburners to reach supersonic speeds.
Expected Behavior: The Tornado IDS should not be able to exceed Mach 1 without engaging afterburners.
Steps to Reproduce:
Select the Tornado IDS aircraft.
Achieve a speed of approximately 1,225 km/h (Mach 1) without engaging afterburners.
Additional Information:
This issue affects the accuracy of the flight model and gameplay balance.
It is possible that this issue also impacts other aspects of the Tornado IDS’ performance, such as climb rate, acceleration, and turn rate. Conclusion: The Tornado IDS’ ability to supercruise without afterburners is a critical flight model inaccuracy that needs to be addressed to improve the game’s realism and balance.
They have never been able to supercruise, except maybe on min fuel, with absolutely no loadout. Most of the time they can barely reach supersonic speeds with a war load and are actually in desperate need of an engine buff in the form of modeling emergency combat thrust which is currently absent from them. (or the for the Tornado Gr1 to get its Mk103 engines modeled)
To achieve this “supercruise” please share the loadout, fuel load and altitude used
(Additionally, the FM is placeholder and underperforming notably, but awaiting code necessary to model the leading edge wing slats. Only been waiting 2 years for that)
Min fuel (but set to infinite so it maintained min fuel amounts)
2000ft alt
neither the Tornado Gr1 nor the Tornado WTD61 could reach mach 1. They both capped out at Mach 0.99 (1200kph)
The addition of Aim-9Ls and BOZ pods reduce this marginally further (Mach 0.98)
When you consider the fuel burn of the Tornados (and thus the totally unrealistic situation where youd be able to play on min fuel for any extended amount of time). Bombs would only reduce this speed further. As far as I am aware, the tornado has correct performance but you cannot supercruise within the Tornado IDS
Edit: Even tested at min fuel, minimal loadout (2x 9Ls and 2x BOZ) at 20k ft and I still wasn’t able to supercruise
True, isn’t the GR.1 11.3 in GRB and 11.7 in ARB? I don’t have a ground lineup so I don’t remember but I thought I saw it once and thought “that’s odd”
Sounds right. The issue is the GR1, ASSTA1 and A200 are 100% identical in terms of performance to the MFG and WTD61 in air modes, and yet are at different BRs
Agreed. Either they need to join the MFG/WTD61 at 11.3 or they need Aim-9M/Aim-9Li respectively. Though I dont think 2x IRCCM missiles at 11.3 on them would actually be all that OP either.
so i found the issue when my friend told me the tornado ids could supercruise which first i was suprised and he sent me a screenshot of this he had two aim 9L on both sides and 2 chaff and flare containers
