Spike LR uses IR seeker with retargeting ability. And if you need to smoke as soon as you are spawned to prevent camping, you are doomed already.
If you’re talking about beginning of matches, that’s just bad map design. Which there are a couple for some reason where both spawns can shoot at each other at the beginning. If you guys are getting spawncamped, plenty of dead vehicles and time to smoke. And I don’t believe War thunder has a retargeting ability modeled. Once it loses track it shouldn’t relock.
No I am talking about irl Spike LR can literally shoot as soon as possible without LoS or lock and target you at the middle way which can effectively kill you from 5km away without leaving you any choice of countering it.
Yeah but in war thunder, you need a lock. No one has ever bug reported or complained that spikes should have a capability to fire without lock.
Even so, imho, it is still pretty broken and boring if Spike being as accurate as irl.
So we should have BMPT fire 8 atgms and secure kills with each one as they can actually control where it goes while vehicles like the puma get 4 spikes where 3/4 will hit the most armored part of the tank or get lost in smoke. All players are asking for is changing its top down attack degree angle. It’s legit so much slower in velocity to have top down. Why keep its irl velocity and not its top down attack?
BMPT should go straight to hell idk why you want to bring it up. It is a vehicle single handed once ruined 9.3+ games and idk why you want something to be even half as broken as it is.

Not only does tandem not really do anything, ERA in general massively overperforms in WT.
For specifically Spike, PARS 3/TRIGAT LR, AKD-9, and other missiles with tandem HEAT warhead and low explosive mass, a lower angle to target is actually better. As long as high/low/direct trajectory switching is not implemented ingame, low trajectory mode will be more optimal.
Tandem HEAT warheads with decent penetration almost never non-pen targets, instead they will fail to destroy due to insufficient spalling, bad targeting location, and the path of the HEAT jet. If these missiles get higher target elevation angles, the jet will have an even worse damage effect due to the angle; the missile will aim for the closest module and fails to hit multiple crew.
There are a number of other MITL-capable weapons in the game too, spike wouldn’t be the exclusive weapon to have that capability.
Additionally with FPV drones being implemented for Infantry mode, the capability is in the game now and likely to come in future. Not much difference between a dude with a drone or a missile launched by a tank exploding you.
With the current state of top tier where super long range, one-shot kill, fire and forget top attack weapons are spawned in after a couple kills happen, MITL spikes from spawn wouldn’t be that different an experience.

The easiest counter to SPIKEs are the massive audio cue they give off, you can hear them a decent 5-6s before they impact, giving ample time to smoke/take cover
luckily smoke, a vital top tier tool, isn’t locked behind the research system… oh wait
Depends on the tank, merkavas for example get a smoke mortar giving you 30 stock smokes (albeit with a short reload time)
