It sometimes opens while in intense battle, like doing barrel rolls and so on, while i am 100% certain i never pressed they key assigned for it! there must be some un-mapped combination of keystrokes or mouse clicks that opens the active messaging window, and usually ruins the battle.
Double check controls.
Clear out the control for the chat and rebind it. See if it helps.
